Does anybody know if a Gibson satin finish can be buffed out to a shinny look?

Yes. It won’t be a gloss finish. But it will shine up nicely.
I’ve buffed my Gold Top with fine followed be swirl remover.

I did it on a 2016 Gibson SG Faded I had and a Very dull flat finished 2012 ESP LTD B5-E. Came out Satin or Semi gloss. Definite improvement over a dull matt like finish. I got the stuff to do from Stewmac. Came as a bar stick and use their foam discs that fit a drill motor.

This stuff, available at any auto supply shop: shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/3m-liquid-scratch-remover-8-oz-39044/7100397-pDo not use 'rubbing compound'; it is too coarse a grit and takes off excessive amounts of finish. The best way to do this is to remove all the hardware from the guitar, polish the bare body and apply an automotive wax, and then reassemble the hardware on it. While it is possible to polish up a satin or matte finish with the hardware on the body, it will look...like it was polished with the hardware on the body.

Glad you mentioned that Geno 😉
