Who'da thunk it?
The Univibe was an attempt by a Japanese electronics whizz to recreate the distorted signal he picked up on the radio from Radio Moscow!
PS - Highly recommend Friday Fretworks!

I convinced our guitarist to buy one in the early '70s. He briefly lent it to me after he started using a big stage Leslie instead.
It developed a problem in the cable between the control box and the pedal and ultimately got tossed in the trash.

It's a spin-out! So where does the popular belief that the Univibe was designed to replicate a rotating speaker come from?
I'd love to see and/or read articles directly from the designer that it was originally designed to replicate radio Moscow. The OP video is hearsay IMO with no direct evidence to back it up (or am I missing something?)

It seems to me, the early Honey/Shin-Ei Uni-Vibes were marketed as replicating the rotating speaker sound (which is where the assumption that it was designed to do so comes from) but the radio interference story is new to me. I have never heard that story until this year. However, I remember that sound so well, it is a very believable story. And Josh Scott is a believable source in my books...
