As per most of JHS's vids, this is pretty interesting.

Thanks for posting. I have never been an overdrive use person but could use the video to learn as it is necessary for many of today's and even the 1970's stuff from when I was in High School and College.

A nice refresher and I learned some new stuff. Thanks from a guy who has more overdrive pedals than he needs.

It’s s shame that it perpetuates the myth that hard and soft clipping are fundamentally different effects; diode clipping is diode clipping, sounds and looks the same whether the diodes are within the feedback loop of the gain stage (soft) or after the gain stage (hard). Rather it’s tweaks to the circuit that provide softer or harsher results.

I went to one of this guys other videos (actually a couple of others) just to see what he had to say about some other things.
I found one about "building a basic rig". I was very surprised to see his second choice on the rig.
First he selected a Telecaster as a very broad spectrum guitar for music in general.
Then his first choice for an amp shocked me a bit. He generally stated a liking for fender amps, but the one he pulled up was a Blues Deluxe and of course the BDRI as the version currently and easily available.
I have a BDRI and I like it, but I NEVER hear anyone stating it to be particularly desirable. Shockingly, he did!

I try to stay away from the various internet gear pages and just let my ears make the decisions. IMO frequenting Internet Gears sites just befuddles my common sense.
On TGP or TDPRI etc, I've read FMICs BDRI, HRDs BJrs suck etc. Yet walk into a Bar or Pub and there is a good chance one will see a guitarist making money and sounding good doing it with one of those amps.
For the $$...IMO FMIC is very hard to compete with in the working musician's class AB push pull with spring reverb market.
