Do you really want to have to change all those strings?

Do you really want to have to change all those strings? Thank you for reminding me. I was remembering my 1969 Harmony Electric guitar I bought new and sold in 1974. Forgot that semi nightmare 😳😉

I have several friends that have the first Dano 12s , they like 'em . And retringing them would be much easier than dealing with the Ric headstock . The Fender 12s are pretty popular now too .

I had a Ric 12 string. Beautiful sounds, but the 12 strings on a narrow neck - not fun to play. Wound up selling it before it needed a string change.

I have about decided not to go for it at least until some things are paid off. I have enough nice (at least for me) stuff for the time being. While I was in Hospital last Thursday my wife took the time to go in my room with my music equipment and guns. She went to clean the sheets and pillow cases on a twin bed I have in there and found a gun she didn't know about plus the guitars and new bass. I usually keep it locked and she never really went in there. She just asked how many I had so I leveled with her. Her response is stop now, you have enough. So with that I don't know if I got a reprieve or she is going to "kill" after I heal

Nice demo. I understand the back and forth. I had a Yamaha Pacifica 12 string a few years ago. Played it a lot for about a month, then it rarely came out of its case, so I eventually sold it. A couple years later, I went through another Beatles and Byrds phase, which led to an Ibanez AS73-12. Again, it was played a lot for a while and then rarely left the case. It was sold in a herd thinning before we moved. Now I have a Mosaic pedal and tell myself it gets close enough for my purposes; but keep looking at Dano 12s, and thinking about building a 12 string Tele.

I was in the market for an ES335 style guitar a few months ago and stumbled across a Hagstrom Viking DLX12. I thought what the hell and traded in a Strat which wasn't easy to do, I loved the guitar but have many Strats. I was taking a gamble expecting tuning problems but am so glad I did it. The guitar is flawless, tuning is extremely stable and it's easy-peasy to tune when required. I cant fault it in anyway, great pups, great tone, no buzzing or dead spots, really easy and comfortable to play. I thought it will probably be a novelty but I ache to play it a lot. A good twelve string rocks!

I always tell Herself about stuff before I buy it . And tell her about all kinds of stuff I don't buy , so at this point she's incredibly knowledgeable for someone that doesn't actually play . I manage to cover the costs of gear investments through gigs so she's always been fine with that . She generally knows what things are worth , and when I've found bargains , and when I've just paid the price . In music stores she's been known to say "that's a good price". LTB , I hope the medical things aren't too serious .

Yeah, but she is so conservative with money the answer almost always would be no we have other things to get with our money so I found it was better to get it, listen to her a while then move on with playing it. Her idea of a lot of money is $200. Not knocking her by any stretch of the imagination as conservative monetarily is good. Me, a lot of money is $1500

I have a USA Ovation 12 Pacemaker. It has a slotted headstock to facilitate curse words during string changes. When ever I play it I say prayer to Elixir string maker. It sounds very unique, like a harpsichord. It's tonality is like a huge plinky cannon. I will never sell it.

It has a slotted headstock to facilitate curse words during string changes. Tip: string from Low E to D strings, then switch to high E through G strings, so you're always working from nut to end of peghead. I don't want to admit how long it took me to figure this out... I've thoroughly enjoyed playing electric 12-strings every time I've had one in my hands. And, once you start paying attention, it is amazing how many famous tracks in the '60s were recorded with 12 strings and we just never noticed. I listen to the '60s on 6 on SiriusXM pretty regularly and have been noticing how frequent it is. (Also, electric sitar was all over the place.) That said, I think I'd only invest in one if I was actively in a band. What a great tool to be able to nail certain songs! I'm not the gear collector/man cave curator that some of you guys are, though.
