Think you've had trouble with guitar shipments?

Gotta be an inside job. They would have to be able to know where and when. Wouldnt be surprized if somehow the shippers are involved .

Has to be either that or it was the last palette loaded in, so it was there when whomever opened the door, and it was luck of the draw. I think the latter is far less credible.

Maybe karma will visit the thieves and the entire lot will turn out to have snapped-off headstocks...

I think they play better after they have been repaired.
I think Gibson should break and fix them at the factory.

And call it "relic-ing"...

If they did it at the factory before putting on the finish you would never know.

So long as the finish was opaque.

I don't think I've ever seen a clear finish on a LP, or SG for that matter. Even the faded series was opaque.
I'm sure there are some.

I don't think I've ever seen a clear finish on a LP, or SG for that matter. Even the faded series was opaque. I'm sure there are some. I've owned two LPs: a Deluxe that was opaque black all over and a Deluxe Goldtop that was clear everyplace but the maple body cap. Most of the Goldtops I've seen are like that. Most of the various iterations of "burst" LPs I've seen have had translucent finish on the necks. Ditto for the burgundy SGs.
Pretty tough to hide a ragged headstock break under translucent finish. Often, they get covered with black paint:
The best such repair I've seen was done by an experienced luthier on an Epiphone Riviera. He hid the break on both the back and sides of the headstock with carefully matched mahogany veneer that was feathered into the original wood.

Get a 90's Studio, all Paul, 1/3 of the price.

Get a 90's Studio, all Paul, 1/3 of the price. My second guitar ever was a white ‘93 Studio with gold hardware. I didn’t keep it long enough and didn’t have it when I really started to play well. I sold it to buy my ‘78 Strat, which I have to this day. I actually sold it to my junior high school Spanish teacher, a year after I graduated. I owned it less than a year. But it’s my 2000 Les Paul Classic 1960 Goldtop that I still think about. The neck on that thing was heaven.

Does this new custom shop re-issue make my original '79 Silverburst LP Custom worth more? From what I saw of the pics, they even got the "greenburst" right. I wonder if they made them weigh 12 plus lbs, as well?

Mine snapped and it was repaired by a friend of a friend who works at Gibson. I need a magnifying glass to see the repair.
Before it snapped it was a good guitar, after the repair it is a great guitar.

Before it snapped it was a good guitar, after the repair it is a great guitar. Funny thing is, a buddy of mine picked up my case when it was not latched(I hate those old chainsaw cases) and it fell out on the floor right on the headstock. For some reason, nothing happened, except the the chip on the headstock. We were up in my other buddy's loft jamming and it landed on the part of the plywood that was in between the floor joists, so there must've been some flex that saved the neck. That, or divine intervention. I was very lucky.

I still say Gibson should break and repair every neck, then finish them. Be a lot stronger and more stable tuning.

I hate thieves.
However...that is one butt-ugly finish. Reminds me of that hideous Antigua finish Fender shot on some of their products over the years. Not only is it less than visually appealing, the black burst shot around the edge is uneven on every one I've looked at.
And I am a huge Gibson fan. I have a bunch. My #1 is a Les Paul.
I am depressed!

"Silverburst" has got to be one of my least-favorite finish options.
Call Tony: my guess is that Sil and Paulie Walnuts know something about this instance of something' "fallin' offa d'back uvah freakin' truck"...

I don't really care much for that finish, either.
I'm glad they posted the serial numbers of all the guitars.
And the guitar closeups in the video link, right below the serial numbers, are really nice!

that hideous Antigua finish FTR, I think Antigua is nice. I like that Warmoth offers it up now as an option.
