I have tele with hum-happens on different amps at different levels. Other teles played in the same spot don't have this issue. The hum does not go away when you touch the strings, but it does stop when you touch the knobs or switch plate. Does that point to anything specific that would help fix this? Thanks for any tips.

I would suspect and inspect the ground from the bridge to the control cavity.

Yup. There should bea ground wire running from the control cavity to make contact with the bridge plate. If there isn’t one, it’s simple to add yourself.

Correct.
Some teles lack the ground wire because it gets grounded via the baseplate on the bridge pickup having continuity to the bridge. For that reason it is easy for it to get omitted accidentally when there is no baseplate on the bridge pickup.
