One of my oldest friends and I have a bet and the winner gets to name a single malt scotch as the prize. I am close to winning the wager. My friend has plenty of money, so, what single malt would you drink if price was no object?

I am assuming you don’t mean The Macallan 1950 Exceptional Single Cask 67 Year Old Whisky Rare which goes for $85k many have super high price tags but I think you want the best tasting which is usually pricey when you say single malt I automatically go to scotch but there are also single malt whiskeys which do you prefer? if scotch which of the 6 regions do you like best? Highlands, Lowland, Speyside, Islands, Campbeltown and Islay. I think that will drive you to your answer if you don’t know then name an example of what you do like I would love to win a bet like this. Since I prefer speysides I think a Japanese Hibiki Harmony 12 yr is something I would like to try. At over $600 per bottle it’s outta my range. It’s a blend of single malts so it may not count in your bet. The NAS Harmony reminds me of a speyside and that I can get for about $80

I'm not an expert by any means but 25 year old Springbank, 25 year old Macallan, and 16 year old Lagavulin have been the standouts in my experience.

We’ve had many single malts on the back bar over the last 30 years. My favorite is a 25 year old Bowmore but those we consume most often are the Macallan 12 year and the Balvenie 12 year doublewood. I have a Chevas Royal Salute blended that was a gift from my bandmates when I retired that gets an occasional sip.

I have a soft spot for a malt which is distilled just to the north of Glasgow and just happens to be the nearest distillery to me on the mainland. The Arran distillery is closest as the crow flies but involves a ferry journey.
Glengoyne is apparently distilled north of the Highland line but matures in the Lowlands.
My favourite is the 18 year old but if the price is too steep, the 12 and 10 year olds are perfectly acceptable.

For some reasons I prefer some of the 12 yr old bottles over the 15 or 18yr Depends on the distillery and style. My go to house scotch is Glenfiddich 12 Had the 14 the solera and the 18 and I just like the 12

The 18 year old takes dan into the ‘well worth winning a wager’ price range. Not obnoxiously expensive either. The younger offerings are both within ‘normal’ malt price ranges and I would happily drink them.
I did notice that when I tried to find US prices that it is offered as a 17 year old in the US. I don’t know what that’s about.

Perhaps a tad off topic. I find that the second half of a bottle, regardless of pedigree, always tastes better.

The second half always is better right after the 1st half.
