Every now and then I catch a tune off our playlist at work by bands I do not know.
This one had caught my ear for a while.
I like it.
The more I hear it I realize it's a pretty upbeat sounding tune by melody.
From a lyrical perspective it's pretty dark.

I remember it well. Was almost required learning for “alternative” guitarists in the 90’s.
Band was a total one hit wonder with that song, as I recall.

Band was a total one hit wonder with that song, as I recall. I have always been aware that Blind Melon was a band ... I had absolutely no idea what their music was though. I did the same thing with Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran has had many hits, on the other hand. He’s just beyond your (and my) age bracket, I think.

Likewise with Maroon 5. I knew of the band for years, had no real clue about their music until recently.
In retrospect. My first Wife bailed out in early 1992. I was a Father with custody of two very small children.
I must admit my critical focus was not on the music scene through the 90s and a bit beyond.

Sounds like that was where your attention needed to be.
Not a Maroon 5 fan myself, they’re a little cookie cutter for me, but I do like this one.

The one you posted there is actually on our play list at work. The one I posted is not. Edited to add and on a slightly different note: Some of the stuff I hear at work is pretty wild when I consider how it seemed back in say, 1973. I hear songs that if you had told me back then they would be standard fare on the play list at a 5 Star Hotel ... I would have said you have to be crazy. Now a lot of that material makes it's way into the scene because all us old farts grew up on it, I guess.

I seem to remember the original music video for this song was a little girl dancing around in a ballet outfit or something like that? Too lazy to look it up.

When I was playing with the band, one of the other guys brought a song for us to learn that I had never heard before: Kenny Chesney's "Beer In Mexico." Easy enough, and I ad libbed an intro and a lead break. Fun song, people liked it. Played it a hundred times without ever hearing KC's original version.
Then one day a few years later, I was in the grocery store and that song came on. Stopped me dead in my tracks while I listened to it.
I must say that our version was better. Seriously.

Their biggest hits must be over 25 years old

I *was* going to say "over 30 years old" but I erred on the safe side. One of my good friends accidentally became drinking buddies with them when they were in London in 1987, before they made it big.

I heard Linkin Park on the local classic rock station - that made me feel old.
