I remember 50 cent pitchers of beer when I was in college. My legally blind friend would invert them on his cane and wave them in the air to get the waitress' attention when empty!

When in college (early 70s), worked at a sub and beer joint. Wednesdays were nickel beer night (cans of PBR).

in NJ we have our state grown corn- Silver Queen. its a hybrid with white kernels and its oooh so good and sweet In the summer at peak harvest time you can get 5 for a buck at the local super markets, farm markets and road side stands. Once the surge is gone then it sells for a little more but for a short time when supply is greater than demand, for that couple weeks you can get 5 for a buck Its also home grown and people sell it at the curb good stuff same with our peaches and tomatoes they dont call us the Garden State for nothing!

Used to find Campbell's soups on sale five/dollar back in early 70s. Best college beer deal I remember was big frosty mugs of draft for a quarter.

For a while there, I was thinking you were mentioning Mickey's wide mouths. Well, not quite as cheap and vile anyway.
