I keep my guitars in a small back room on the second floor of my house. The room has a crappy window (soon to be replaced, I hoped) and gets cold in the winter. To spare the rest of the house, we're closing the door on the backroom and putting a draft blocker along the floor. Will my guitars be safe in there over the winter, or should I move them out? The room temps won't get screamingly cold—there is a heating there—but it will be chilly as the room is closed from the other (warmer) parts of the house. Any advice appreciated.

They'll be fine. Most of the guitars that make it to your house are stored for weeks or months in warehouses that are often colder than your room will be. I would recommend keeping them in cases or padded gigs and allowing them 3 or 4 hours in the case/bag to warm up before taking them out.

Yup.
That isn't cold enough to worry. It sounds like "extra sweater" sort of cold, which is a non issue. If you have to keep it any place colder than that, the bigger danger isn't the actual temperature, it is how quickly the temperature drops and more importantly how fast it comes back up. When I was at my first music store job we got in a bunch of post-NAMM gear in some very cold temperatures, sometimes 35-40 below! We let the guitars stay in the cases, in the boxes, for days before pulling them out and didn't have a single problem. Many of them were Gibsons, so fresh lacquer, finicky veneers and solid woods were all in play. There was one day when we sold a solid top starter guitar, and the top cracked open on its way out to the new, proud owner's car from the sudden blast of cold. I've heard similar stories of taking guitars out of cold cars and opening them up next to hot stoves.
Heat is a different issue.
