We recently moved into a two-story home that has no gutters. We’re definitely going to install them and because we have a lot of pine trees I was considering gutter guards. From what I’ve read it seems that the mesh type is best if you’re going to have a lot of pine needles, however, I have also seen where this type will also shed water during heavy rains ( I’m in NC so hurricanes are an issue) vice letting it flow into the gutter. The quotes I’ve received have the guards costing every bit as much as the gutters and so I’m also wondering how many times that would pay for someone to clean them or buy the ladder for me to do it myself (I have no issues on a ladder). I know that having the guards does not mean maintenance free, but it would be nice to not have to clean them several times in the fall. Any thoughts welcomed, thanks.

I installed Easy On Gutter Guards from Costco and they have been very effective keeping oak, sycamore, sweet gum, elm and whatever else blows in from the hood. Very affordable and easy to install. Costco says they work against pine needles but I cannot attest to that as no pines nearby.

My neighbor lady next door had new gutters installed w/leaf guards 2 months ago. 10,000$ !! We have the exact same house a Colonial 2 story. I don't have issue with leaves, I don't think she did either. No way I spend that kind of money.

My gutters were included with my renovation. The covers cost $400, custom cut and installed. I don’t have a big house, but there’s a set-in on the aecond story, so parts of the house have double the gutters. I have an inordinate amount of gutters.

Costco guards cost me less than $200 two years ago. I paid more but didn’t have to fall off a ladder, which with me, probably is inevitable if you let me use a ladder for long enough periods of time!!

Not only do we not have gutter guards, we do not have gutters. Oh, did I mention, we also do not have rain. The last rain we had was on April 20th. Edited to add: And the only tree in the yard is a single Canary Island Date Palm DSC_1684 by Larry Madsen, on Flickr

We had Leaf Guard gutters on our last house. They worked great. On one of our previous homes we had gutter screens. Altjough the prevented downspout clogs I had to clean them annualy.

You would want to keep that thing out of your gutters. If you had gutters Yes indeed. That PIC is at least a couple of years old. I recently trimmed it again and ended up with twenty four 42 gallon trash bags full of frons and seed pods.

I had gutter toppers installed around 20 years ago and love them! I just had 10 tall ash trees removed from my property and next spring there will be 12 more taken down so it gives you an idea of the amount of leaves we’ve had to deal with. The gutter toppers performed beautifully and ended the annual climb on the roof of our tri-level home. They install like this.
