This is kind of a take off on the procrastinator thread. I have a real scratchy pot on my PRS. I have had replacement for a couple years, even bought a new soldering iron for the job but have not done it yet. I got it bad!

Blast it with some DeOxIt or CRC to see if that fixes it. Pack a paper towel around it to catch the drippy bits.

One thing I miss about RadioShack is the 64-2315. And the 64-2320. One was "TV tuner cleaner" and the other was "color TV tuner cleaner." Best known as "contact cleaner." From back in the day of CRT TVs with analog channel changers. I think the 2320 had a lubricant, IIRC.

Do the contact cleaner first. Save the solder. Deoxit is what I use as well.

I think that was about the time they quit promoting from within and started getting executives from outside the company, who had not worked their way up from salesperson. Wound up with Pharoahs who did not know Joseph, so to speak.

Radio Shack sure seems like a classic lost opportunity and mismanagement case. And yes, the instant it turned to cell phones, the writing was on the wall. I also miss the old Radio Shack ! It could be a center for all the electrobits of everything from robots, solar power, batteries, lights, drones, amps, and even music electronics and supporting soldering supplies. And a cell phone section ! In the old Radio Shack, being able to see and fondle the various parts often inspired new projects and solutions in a way shopping on ebay fails to do. But someone dropped the ball...or lost faith in Radio Shack. Like Toys R Us and Sears I guess. Bad management or we stupidly gave up to China. Or both. Oh well. Nothing is even close to replacing Radio Shack so far.
And I have a question. I used to use a CRC kind of contact cleaner and it would strip almost everything off the contact.
On the advice of others, I bought Deoxit but I get mixed results. First, it's really messy and doesn't evaporate very quickly, so it gets around to much. On one device with a bad pot it worked really well. On another it didn't do a thing. I suspect the pot was just beyond help. And on another device, the liquid got into the liquid crystal display and discolored it. On another couple of devices it didn't seem to clean much...if any. Does one have to shake it ? And I tried it on a device where I couldn't get the battery corrosion off, and it didn't do a thing for that. And when I just spray a simple contact, it just seems to "coat" the contact rather than strip it. Is this how it's supposed to work ?

I miss the old Radio Shack to some degree but face it in the late 60's and 70's they sold the worse vacuum tubes and much of their electronics only had a 90 day warranty and quality not so great. They were good for resistors, capacitors, some chips, solder etc but their switches were poor quality. Since Radio Shack's demise it has force us to look elsewhere. A very good source of electronic parts etc in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area is Tanners Electronics on Valwood in Carrollton. Tanners Electronics

gbfun, cleaners like De Ox It cannot repair bad parts. It's a cleaner that leaves no trace of itself ever having been there. And you're probably using too much. Think about it like this: if you say "bang" when you pull the trigger on the spray cleaner, that is how much to use.
Always always pack paper towels around the part you're blasting (about a 1/4-second blast is good), and always hold another paper towel over the part as you shoot the stuff.
Sometimes the stuff cannot fix a scratchy pot and it needs to be replaced because it's damaged or worn out. It's just one of those things...

Yes, if the cleaner doesn't work or it happens again in short order replace the pot
