This really grinds my gears- one day my excellent and bulletproof Windows 7 computer is working perfectly, as it has for many years, and the next day it is obsolete.
Just doesn't seem right.
I've ordered an external hard drive (should've done it a couple weeks ago) and will move stuff off my machine to the EHD. Luckily, I have my mom's Windows 10 machine to switch over to; she passed away a last spring and I brought it home.
I sure hope this is the last computer I have to deal with. But I doubt it.
Did I mention that this doesn't seem right?

One of my laptops is a Dell running Win7 and it's still going strong.
Now that I've typed ^^^that^^^ line, it will probably go tango uniform in a day or three.

Built-in product obsolescence is the first consideration in many business models.

My HP ProBook suffers the same fate. I had replaced the 7200rpm HD with an SSD a while back, have an external Glyph drive, Pro Tools 10, Sound Forge, a ton of plugins and extras. Since Pro Tools 10 isn't compatible with Win 10 (some have reported success, but I won't risk it) it's a done deal. I pressed the WiFi button off, uninstalled all malware/virus protection and moved all my non-music files to an Asus Win 8.1 laptop that my wife had previously for work. My HP is now a dedicated DAW. All recent versions of Pro Tools are subscription and well, bite me Avid.

I have to deal with W10 on my work laptop. Meh... it’s ok. I’m getting by and the switch wasn’t horribly painful.
But since I’ve been on iPhones for years, I figured I’d make the jump to a Mac. So far it’s been fine. I’ve pretty much switched over all my day-to-day stuff to the Mac. My photo processing was the jump I worried about the most. But that’s been fine. And, for what little recording I do (and it’s been a few years since I’ve done any) I’ll use GarageBand.

One of my computers is still running Windows Vista. It still runs well, can't update most programs but it is fine for storage of pics and web surfing. It also has old version working Microsoft Office programs. I do have one running win 10 also.

I switched to 10 several years ago and it has been running fine. On automatic updates and never a problem.

I'm still running Windows XP on the computer in my music room. It's for composing / sound recording and is not connected to the internet.

Funny thing. On startup yesterday AM I got the MS warning about WIN 7 on my home laptop. Then when shutting down last night it installed new updates on my WIN 7 laptop. Maybe it was downloading the self-destruct sequence.
I will keep WIN 7 for at least a while. My work laptop is still WIN 7 too.

Our company’s IT wizard built me a system where I can boot it up in either XP or Windows 10. My scanner and a couple other items had no drivers for 10 so until they fail I can still use them.

Just got the push over the cliff from Windows 7 to 10 this week at work. So far it’s alright. But I’d been exposed to the new interface for a while with Server 2016. It’s interesting that the “start” menu model has been replaced with a screen of tiles.

My laptop for live remote multitrack recording runs W7 and I have no reason to change the OS. It ain't broke....why update something that works fine?

I don't know how many times I turned on my PC and it would start another 30 minute update, always when I really needed to look something up. By the time the update was finished, I'd forget what I needed the PC for.
I'm with Leftee, and at least part of the reason I switched to a MacBook was the auto updates on Win10.

Window 7 and still going strong. I hate the idea of of upgrading. I don't use 70% of what I have now, and upgrade to me means let us spy on your every move even more than we do now.

W7 had a good run, for sure. The 9 years I ran it I never had an issue. Never had to reload my computer. Never had it fail me.

When I bought this machine, I paid extra to get W7. Windows 8 was the OS of the day at the time, but I never heard much good about it.
The "downgrade" was worth it to me.

I figure W7 is safe to use on the webs for another month or two. Then I'll have to make a decision to either go with 10 or Linux.
I can't afford a new machine much less a Mac.

I got the MS warning about WIN 7 on my home laptop. Then when shutting down last night it installed new updates on my WIN 7 laptop. bassngtr, Yup. That happened on my mom's Win7 Pro laptop,as well. Must be a "parting gift" from MSFT lol As far as security patches go ... I, evidently, missed an important one some time ago upon which subsequent updates were based because my Windows update hadn't worked for a long time. Couldn't even get it to install manually. Even at that, I never experienced any malicious incursion and I'm doing one thing or another on the internet much of every day. If anyone is way concerned about not receiving updates, I've read (if you have Windows 7 Enterprise) that PAID updates are available for $25/device from Jan 2020-Jan 2021 and the cost doubles on a year-by-year basis, at each anniversary. Same for Windows 7 Professional except the price is $50/device Of course, you KNOW that everything "published on the internet is 100% accurate so take that with a grain of salt. betanews.com/2019/02/06/microsoft-windows-7-extended-security-updates-pricing/
