Maybe it's because at my age, I'm already counting down, in a manner of speaking, but it has been at least 15 years since I actually "witnessed" the new year: 5-4-3-2-1 ....kaboom. Anyone else experience this year's changeover in mid-snore?

Last one was a few years ago. I woke up at about 11:45 and had to pee -- I said what the hell, I'm up. Turns out I wasn't missing much.

I can't remember the last time I watched the new year arrive.

We went down somewhere around 10pm. It had been a working day for both of us with plans for a busy day on Jan. 1. I'm pretty much burned out on the holiday season by the time New Year's rolls around. Happy to give it a miss.

I noted that on the FDP there was not one 'Happy New Year' thread. At least none titled as such. I think it may have been due to being more of a somber moment...

Mostly play Fender guitars and amps. I'm 71 and have had a guitar since 1964. Got serious in 1975.

Went to bed around 11:00 pm. Can't remember the last time I stayed up 'til midnight.

I stayed up, but barely. I was definitely ready for bed by 10:00. But my 12 year old is finally old enough to make it to midnight and was excited to do so, so I stayed up.

We didn't stay up. We went out for gourmet burgers and pumpkin bread pudding.
And this was probably the 4th of 5th NYE in a row that I've not taken a drink of hoochy juice of any kind. I do occasionally enjoy a jolt or two of whisky/tequila/etc., but I much prefer waking up in the morning with a clear head and eyeballs that can reasonably focus.

Had dinner with my mom and she wanted to watch the "ball drop", so I watched T.V. with her. Midnight in New York would have been 10:00 P.M. Somehow, (tape delay?) it wasn't going to happen until 11:00, local time, so I went home at 10:00 and was right here at this very keyboard at 12:00, local. I heard fireworks but can't say I stayed up, specifically , for that. It's just that I'm still on "musicians hours" and never go to bed until 2:00 or 3:00.

I've never liked New Year's Eve much. I don't avoid going somewhere if invited, but my personal new year runs on my birthday rather than the end of the calendar year. Sort of a personal fiscal year. That's the time I do my reflecting on the old and planning for the new. We usually crap out with the police scanner for a wild evening of entertainment. If you haven't tried it, you should.

Occupational hazard for me. Bars up here are open 'till 3 AM NYE. Fortunately, the band ended at about 1:30 and a DJ closed the night. Stage was struck. reset to default and I was home by 2:15.

We usually have an extended family "party" where we eat insane amounts of snack food and cookies, drink libations of choice and play games until midnight. Usually we open a bottle of champagne just before midnight to toast in the new year. All that happened this year except the champagne. Everyone was dragging so we stayed up just long enough to watch the fleur De Lis drop (central time zone) and then everyone was like...."OK, happy new year and g'night everyone" and we trudged off to bed.
If it was just Mrs. Slacker and me, best case is that we're asleep on the couch at midnight. More likely that we've fallen asleep, woken up at 11 or so and said "screw it, let's go to bed".

I had surgery on December 12th so New Year’s Eve was the first time I ventured out of the house for a social event. I have organized and played an open mic/jam session for the last two and a half years at a local club and the club owner invited us to join his family and bar staff for a private party at the club. It was a pleasant evening with good friends and good eats, but my wife and I were home by ten, watched a movie, popped open a bottle of champagne, toasted in the new year, and were in bed 30 minutes into the new year.

Haven't really begun a NYE reveler since my early 20s. Usually in bed before the ball drops.

I had a couple NYE gigs a few years ago where I did the count down. . Otherwise, I really haven’t celebrated it much at all. Last year I almost made it. We had guests up for cross country skiing and dinner but we were all so tired from the ski we couldn’t hold out past 11:30. Laughed about it every time I saw the unopened bottle of champagne.
