Surfing brought us tunes like "Pipeline" and "Wipe Out".
Fast cars brought us the memorable "Little Deuce Coup" and "Highway Star."
Beautiful women were the inspiration for "California Girls" and "Pretty Woman."
Working for a living got us into the "Five O'Clock World" and "Taking Care of Business."
Still trying to fill the void on
Bowling
Toilet repair
Boiling rice
Cleaning fish
Giraffe husbandry
But I keep coming up empty.

When I see news reports about the goings-on and problems related to New Orleans City Hall, I am reminded that when Bob Dylan wrote "Everything Is Broken," he was living in New Orleans. I bet he wrote that song about New Orleans. And that was years before Katrina hit.

After listening to "I Want to Tell You" on the Beatles' Revolver album and "You're Going to Lose That Girl" from the previous year's Help! album, I get the impression that the latter song was John's "Layla."
Stephen Stills was born in Dallas, Texas; lived somewhere around here for a while; moved to New Orleans; then moved to Florida, before leaving the nest. I believe Neil Young wrote "Southern Man" because he and Stills didn't get along so well.
