Yumm....I get to an A&W about once every 5 years or so, but I almost always get a RBF there. The really good A&W's have the real draught root beer. It's a separate tap coming from a keg, not the fake fountain stuff alongside the other soda options. The real draught stuff is nothing short of amazing. I only know of one place around here that has it and I heard they dumped it a couple years ago.
I'm worried that A&W may have discontinued it entirely. (off to go investigate)...

As a kid dad used to get kegged birch beer for family parties. Not root beer but the red version and yes we did floats. Had a keg on ice and a pump tap. Kegged ruled. Stewart’s kegged root beer was awesome as well. These days it’s all syrup and seltzer like all sodas.

I made a float tonight with A&W Rootbeer and Turkey Hill All Natural Vanilla ice cream. It was delicious! However, I did miss the old wax coated Sweetheart cup, long plastic spoon and paper straw. I think those things added to the experience and maybe the taste a little.

Whenever I have a root beer float, 2 hours later I always have to go boom, boom, boom in your room.
