When did pillows get so expensive? Mine are fine, but I'm a side sleeper with wide shoulders and when they pack down they sometimes sit a bit low for my tastes. I took a look to see what was out there, and was expecting prices from $4-5 all the way up to $20 on the fancy ones. Instead, I'm seeing $15 for a basic pillow, and other that are several hundred dollars.
So bizarre. I hope this isn't yet another thing I have to research forever end up ordering on Amazon.

I don't know of a cheap pillow worth taking home. The $5 ones from fifteen years ago are now $15 and are not fit to sleep on. I bought a dozen from Walmart to use as displays but my head deserves better! Spend over $50, it's worth it.

I've yet to find a pillow I really like. Down filled come the closest to being decent, but still not there.

We had two $100 “cooling” pillows thrown in for free when we bought our fancy mattress. I’d never heard of that type of thing before but they are awesome and totally worth it!!

"Add to the list of things that have gotten strangely expensive without anyone noticing"
Applies to anything MIC once the company that makes it here has either gone out of business or moved production to PRC.

I realized a few years ago that I was having much less back/neck pain while sleeping on our Disney trips. So I tracked down the exact pillows they use in their hotels, and now that’s all I use. And they have greatly improved my sleep at home. I pay about the same for one that I was paying for two of the crap pillows I was using before, and I replace them about every 6 months. But the improvement in my sleep is worth every penny. Sobel Sahara Nights

I just checked amazon and they are selling the Beyond Down Jumbo Pillow in a 2-pack for $40. That is a very good price on some excellent pillows. We sold those same pillows and customers tended to come back and buy more.

Didn't know we had so many pillow enthusiasts!
I'm watching spending like a hawk at least until after tax season, so since it is possibly not a negligible purchase it will be postponed unless I develop issues. As mentioned, I'm a side sleeper with wide shoulders and when I have to sneak my arm under the pillows to get them to the right height I tend to want to replace them, but it isn't indicative of a dire need.
It just amazes me how many things become deeply considered, pre-meditated purchases, or purchases with incredibly broad options for how much you want to spend. I feel like a lot of this is what drives real, on-the-ground inflation. You don't just go to the store and buy ground beef. You can go to Wal-Mart and get the stuff that gets recalled semi-regularly, or you can go to Whole Foods and get the stuff that needs a payment plan, or you can go to all of the places in between. I've seen a dozen eggs as much as $8-9 a carton, and the super cheap stuff is still available. Coffee is a perfect example. You can buy a cup of coffee for $1, $3, $5 or $10, and probably even higher. Finding the right quality level is hard. Cheap chicken these days smells rotten the day you buy it, and canned coffee was actually better in the '80s (arabica prices hadn't gone up due to a non-existent craft coffee world, so they were able to use much better beans).
A few decades ago you had this much of a price difference in some things: cars, fancy clothes, wine, maybe generic vs. brand name groceries, but most basic household things didn't vary that much.
I'm not sure if we're just suckers for always wanting the best of everything, or if I should be thankful we have great choices and higher quality these days.

The "tactical" pillows are the really pricey ones.
Each one is rigorously tested under operational conditions by Seal Team 6...

Then you have to buy the tactical Kevlar pillow cases! They are pricey.

I bought a Coop adjustable pillow off Amazon a few years ago and after years of constant neck pain, I finally found something that works. Cheap pillows suck .

I don’t often overstate things, and these pillows really stopped me from tossing and turning all night. I get a full night’s sleep every night now. Can’t say enough good things about them. Since I started buying them, the website has gone to free ground shipping on all orders (and didn’t raise the price). Shipping was $17 previously, so the policy change was great!!

Regardless of your pillow, don't forget the pillow protector! That's the new hot thing... keep your drool and bed bugs off your pillow!

I've had the same cheap pillow for 20 years or so. It's so thin now that I fold it in half for sleeping, and roll it up to put under my neck, for reading in bed. My wife has tried to wean me off of it with some of the "exotics" out there now, but I always sneak the oldie back in. It's probably more dust mite than material at this point, but it works for me!

Seriously, I give thanks to the Big Man pretty frequently for this pillow. Thanks for the heads up, Mike. I'm very grateful.

Great news! I also converted both my wife and daughter, who insisted on using godawful hard pillows until recently.
I never slept well, and on these pillows, I do. Is it the pillows? Don’t know, don’t care!!
