When you put an advertisement in the first 22 seconds of the video, I will PURPOSELY avoid that advertiser's products, merely out of spite, even if it is something I need and/or want.

Yeah, I started another thread about this last month.
Ads interrupting sub-4-minute music vids are the worst ones, IMHO.
But yeah: makes me not want to buy the product, to be sure.
Then there's the plea to "click that subscribe button" before I've even seen the content. Why would I do that when I don't yet even know whether I like the content?

Just a matter of time before you have to pay to watch, surprised it hasn't happened already.

I totally agree. I can't believe the advertisers are so dumb, they don't realise that some people will deliberately and permanently boycott products from companies that pxxx them off.

Not only are we paying for internet service, but now it's getting to the point where they want you to pay even more just to access the content. Wiki keeps begging me to donate, Youtube wants me to pay to not watch ads, news sites want me to subscribe just to see articles that I can usually find elsewhere.... It's time we start a brand new internet, free of advertising! I'm looking for investors and staring here! It will cost more monthly than you're paying now, but you won't get pop up ads, and all content will be free. Who's with me? Maybe I should start a new thread....

Golden rule of content on the internet: if you don't pay for the product, you ARE the product.

Yeah, I think our Free Trial Period or the Entire Internet is coming to an end...in stages. Can We Talk?

I'm wondering how much of my life I've wasted watching the 5,4,3,2,1 countdown until I get to the "Skip Ads" button. I don't even notice the ads -- just waiting for the skip.

If I were the descendants of Monet, I'd sue for compensation from everyone who ever used the term 'Monetization'.
I'll be rich!
Rich!

I run a couple of ad blockers-- Adblock Plus and Disconnect. They work pretty well. I still see some ads.
In Youtube, I will get a blank video and an immediate button to skip the ad. I have not seen any videos that break into an ad in the middle of the video.
My biggest gripe is that a URL is mentioned on a forum or a Facebook post, and when I click on it, there is a paywall or a pop-up that says to see the content, you need to sign up, pay. or turn off your ad blocker. I'm sorry (really I'm not), but NO! There is nothing on any site that I HAVE to see. If you challenge me to get in, I'll just leave.

The internet is broken, and instead of fixing it, they're slowly bringing it down.
All the ad blockers seem to do for me is to make me click on something saying I'll accept cookies. But I never get the good Keebler cookies!

Every aspect of the internet has become tedious. It ironic in a way. Not the finest achievements of big tech. It what happens when you have a good idea and let the parasites in.
