My wife broke her ankle when she fell going down a couple of outdoor deck steps with an armload of stuff. Compound fracture, it was bleeding like a stuck pig.
The ER visit was much better than I'm used to. Straight to a treatment bay, x-rays right there with a portable machine and reduction/splint done within a couple hours. She had surgery the next morning.
Since then has been interesting since I work full time and she usually takes care of the house/cooking/etc. I can cook and clean and such, but it's not usually daily thing for me. We had her sister's family over for a few days and that was an adventure. Cooking several meals a day for a crew of about 12 along with keeping the house straightened up etc. Now I'm back to work and trying to work from home so that I can be around to help her.
She cannot put any weight on it right now so everything is an ordeal. I haven't figured out yet how I'm going to get her to the car for her follow-up appointment. It took four of us to get her into the house and that was before we got 10" of snow.

You might be able to rent one of these from your hospital. A friend used one when he had an ankle replacement.

So sorry to hear about this, must be a very tough situation.
As far as getting down the stairs, there’s always this. But I don’t know how you’ll get back in.
