Thinking about an Ebay purchase for an alder bass body that just needs to be painted gloss black. And since it's an Iceman-style body there is a LOT of real estate and I think normal spraying on that much surface is above my pay grade. Anyone dealt with someone good?

Send it to MJT Customs. They do pretty good work.

Marty Bell is the name that comes up most frequently for truly outstanding work. In fact, I can't think of any other name.

I have 3 MJT bodies, one being a custom paint job (opaque green to black burst). The most recent was a sonic blue that I also special ordered.
I think they are now very focused on the closet to heavy relic line. The greenburst I custom ordered several years back was/is pretty much in a like new glossy stage. The most recent sonic blue was requested as like new as they get and was far less finished. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again, Mark and Matt have been great to deal with. But I'd get some clarity on a refin as to what is expected and what they now provide.

I am waiting for a MJT Custom finished ash Stratocaster body in trans nitro honey blonde. I'm not a relic guy so it'll be closet clean. So far they've been very good to work with and I expect the body to show up any day. When it does, I'll let you know.

Lots of votes for MJT here. My partscaster has an MJT butterscotch blonde in their closet clean style - no wear but slight checking and a not so glossy finish. It’s on a light weight 1 piece ash body and it feels great when I play it. I like to just look at it too when the light hits it just right. It shows the wood grain nicely through the finish.
