I’ve finally succumbed to boredom and ordered a Line 6 M9. I’ve had an M5 for a while but have hardly played it, as it’s not really practical for gigging. The fact that Brian Ray (McCartney’s guitarist) has one on his gig rig sealed the deal. ;-)
Anyone got one/ had one? Any tips/ thoughts?
Thanks

I have the M5, and I rarely use it because it randomly just powers off. I've tried a one spot power supply and got the same results. To the best of my knowledge, Line6 has never published an update for the software, and their bench fee is nearly as much as buying a new one.
My buddy also has an M5 with the exact same problem.
So the best I can offer is, it sounds great when it works, but buyer beware.

It’s an M9 so it’s four better than an M5.
Nigel Tufnell has an M27.

I had the M13, but downgraded to the M5 because there were only a few effects that I really liked off of it. The drive/distortions weren't good in my ears, but the delay and reverbs were nice. I loved that shimmer delay (I think it's octo delay?). I got a TC reverb that now does that so I migrated over. I use the M5 mainly as a detuner now.

I know nothing about the M9 other than reviews that I've read. It's been around awhile and I don't see (on the unit) a way to perform upgrades, like most of the newer Line 6 units have. I hope you like it and that it does what you're expecting! Maybe it'll be exactly what you're looking for! If not, is it something you can return within a certain time frame? Line 6 is making some incredible effects pedals these days if you are looking for more versatility. Let us know what you think of it!

I recently got an M5 just to add some effects at our rehearsal place (drummer's house). I didn't research it well enough and when I got a used one from Reverb, I was disappointed to find it had lots of effects - one at a time. So now I'm thinking of the M9 as you can use up to 3 FX at a time. The only gripe is the skimpy instructions (online). I have had other Line 6 products that I had the same quibbles about, but overall, I do like their stuff.
