it was not pretty... I almost felt sorry for the little guy...she screamed!...he scurried!...she cursed him!...he stopped dead in his tracks....and squish!.... her left flip flop claims another victim.....and then there was the taunting.....all of the refs would have yellow flagged her!
I don't know if I've ever seen more rage in a person, especially a woman, when they encounter a Chickenroach
I had a front row seat...it was awesome....

They don't want to admit what they are, so they call the fist-sized ones down in Florida "palmetto bugs".

The palmetto bug is not a typical caca roach; it has no hind wings like most other chickenroaches, and is relegated to slinking around in the dirt. They grow to a length of around 2".

I did battle with one in the bathroom the other day. Dodgy little bugger. Looked like he could've handled a Marlboro in the process.

I did battle with a Palmetto Bug, and lost. We had just moved into our Key West apt. I was wearing socks when my wife saw this huge roach crawling on the wood floor and screamed for me to kill it. It scattered when I chased it, zigged when I zagged, and I slipped on the unfamiliar slippery floor and busted arse big time. My wife was hysterical with laughter while I rolled on the ground in pain and declared the roach the winner.

Just trying a word experiment here:
Crockroach
Jockroach
Won't know if either of these got through unmolested by the filter until I hit "create thread"
Seconds later: hey, it worked. From now on we can refer to Tom Cruise's flying office as a "crockpit" And Rob can do battle with a Jockroach.

You haven't experienced Chickenroaches until you've lived in a old tenement building in Manhattan. Years ago I did exactly that. Bottom of building was a restaurant. At one point the roaches were so bad I considered moving out. Eventually the landlord was forced to fumigate the whole building. I learned that there were small 'German" roaches and huge "American" roaches. This building had both. The small ones eventually overran My apartment, Kitchen, Bathroom and Sleeping area. Found them in my bed at one point. It was war. I sprayed commercial chemicals, used roach motels and even set up perimeters of Roach gel outside my doors. When man came to fumigate, I gave him a tip to do an extra good job on the apartment next to me. After he did that apartment, he came back and resprayed the shared walls, where the kitchen sink was. The neighbor was very nice, but was the source of my roach problems. After that no problems. One time, before the fumigation, I had to go into the basement to reset a breaker for my apartment. When I turned on the light in the basement, there where so many roaches, the floor looked like it was moving.

We were pretty fortunately in our 7 year Florida stint. Very few issues with bugs. Mostly geckos and frogs sneaking in. I did spray the outside perimeter every few months with Talstar, something I need to do here as well.

I took a surf trip down to San Diego back during the 1970s. We found this dive room to rent in a Mission Beach duplex (this was long before Air B&Bs, ratings, etc.. We must've found it in the newspaper classifieds or noticed a sign in the window or something).
Ate dinner, drank a couple beers and hit the rack.
As we were drifting off to Slumberland, I heard this *clicking* sound.
Flipped on the lights and there they were: hundreds of roaches crawling up the walls, their little roach legs making that *clicking* sound.
Ugh...
Needless to say, we sought alternate accommodations for the following night.

It's been pretty quiet around here since my wife did her little dance of death....I'm guessing the rest of them got the message... I'm tempted to venture outside and catch one and bring it in without telling her..but I'm jonesing for another tele so....

Palmetto Bugs, 1st introduced to them at Ft Gordon,GA. At sundown the sidewalks were totally covered with them. You would walk to the mess hall. Crunching along. Yuk. Father in laws house in Rochester NY had German Chickenroaches everywhere. Inside fridge, stove, peanut butter jar. He had been succumbing to Alzheimers for a while.

The first time I saw a Palmetto bug was at Lackland AFB, near San Antonio. We were standing at parade rest in formation and I watched one climbing the wall. I remember it as being over 2” long, or so it seemed.
