4 of us standing around a kitchen island draped in foil and paper towels. My, my what a mess but so good. I love all shellfish but somehow never got myself to do this style of feast. Red potatoes and corn...oooh weee...

I haven't had a mess of mudbugs in over twenty years -- we don't get them up here. I envy your feast.

Where do crawfish compare to shrimp and lobster? I think I had on once, but that was in South Africa so I'm not sure it's the same thing. I didn't especially like it, but I didn't care for lobster either until I tried one last year. I think in both cases I was put off by butter rather than animal.

To me, crawfish taste sweeter that lobster and shrimp. I sure wish I could still get fresh crawfish again!

I'm certainly no expert being this my inaugural venture into the little buggers, but I would compare the meat to lobster, maybe even more succulent. But tiny by comparison.
We need some of those Louisiana fellas to chime in.

I was born in South Carolina and my mother's family, what's left of them, still live down there. I used to go back a couple times a year on business, but I'd often pick up twenty or thirty pounds of crawfish and head to my aunt's house to get them boiled up. I met relatives I didn't even know I had when they found out I was paying.
Up here in New England, shrimp(s) are almost always fried, baked/stuffed, or cooked in butter and garlic (scampi). Lobsters are almost always boiled and served swimming in butter. Down South the crawfish are usually boiled with a spicy seasoning mix. I like them all, but given a choice I'd be sucking crawfish heads any day.

Eat the tails . Suck the heads.
Y’all can have my share. Too much North Louisiana in me I guess.

Complete nightmare on a plate (or table as the case may be) for me. That’s insects, I’m not eating sea insects.

When I was in Bossier City they were everywhere. I did try them, once. Not for me.

Low country boil on a Sunday. Nice.
Don’t eat them too often but used to catch crawdaddies all the time as a kid and still enjoy them from time to time, along with other shellfish.

We need some of those Louisiana fellas to chime in. Lived in Kenner La circa '61/63 and never had the pleasure till many years later! Went to Thibodeaux for my Mom's funeral in 2017 and we had a feast! Yeah, smaller but, done right and it's all good!

I like all kinds of seafood but I didn't care for crawfish or frog legs. May I just didn't have the right ones.

Eating bugs that you can find living in ditches. But they are tasty! (although a lot of work for not a lot of payoff) I think crawfish are just as much a social event as they are food, perhaps more. PS, I'm a half coonass, so I can use that term!
