If you saw an ad for something called Cat Clamp, you'd be forgiven if you thought it had something to do with plucking feline turds from litter boxes. Especially if you live outside of California. We on the west coast are currently being hammered by a new breed of thieves. They used to be after our car radios. Or batteries. Or even the whole car. But now they come for our catalytic converters. Cars and trucks parked on the street or in driveways are tempting targets; a lowbrow with a hacksaw can count on making a few hundred dollars a night, selling the converters for their precious metals like Palladium and rhodium. The thefts have gone up 400 percent over 2019. Getting replacements installed ($3,000 or so) can take a while because the auto shops are backlogged on orders for the converters. So, enter the Cat Clamp. It's basically a cage that goes around the catalytic converter under your car or truck. It's not foolproof, but like alarms and steering wheel locks, more effort is involved in getting the prize. Hopefully, the thief moves on to an unprotected vehicle, leaving your Cat Clamped car alone. In my neighborhood, I'm pretty much the only homeowner with a clear driveway at night. I don't know what the neighbors keep in their garages, but it sure isn't cars. catclamp.com/

I thought this was going to be about the recent catalytic converter theft trend.
Thought maybe a "cat clamp" would be a locking device of some sort.
