Anytime some Cop gets in trouble they always say, "Don't send me to Staten Island"
What about Staten Island would make cop not want to go there for work.
The episode I just watched a training officer gets busted for umm not being ethical with female trainees and he gets threatened with being transferred to Staten Island.
What gives?

Nobody from the other boroughs wants to go to, let alone have to work in, Staten Island. I see it in my business all the time, if I have to go to Court in Manhattan it’s just normal, when a Manhattan attorney has to come here they are always late because it’s “so far” and they act like someone is asking them to go to the moon.
We’re definitely looked down upon and/or looked at like we are not part of “the City”.
Personally, if I were a cop or a fireman, pay is the same with like 1/100th of the danger. Send me to Staten Island all day.

OK, so kinda of like the way we people of NKY hate crossing the bridge into Cincinnati. It's like going to a 3 rd world country.

Parts of Cincy *are* a 3rd world country. And I'm thinking of moving to Northern Kentucky.

Ironically, most of the people of my generation who live here, their parents came here from the other boroughs. Me, my mom’s side emigrated from Germany directly to Staten Island. But Dad’s family came from Park Slope, Brooklyn.

For what it’s worth, Donnie’s character is a very good representation of a dude we see around here all the time. Originally from Brookly, never stops talking about how great Brooklyn is despite having moved his family to Staten Island.
And I’m pretty sure his family did live on Staten Island for at least a part of the series.

I really haven't followed Blue Bloods in recent years. Is Danny still arguing with his sister and sliding over the hoods of cars? Oh, and is Frank still sighing profusely? 🤣

Regarding the show, I was very late to the party. I believe I watch the first seven seasons on Netflix, and caught up in time for the eighth season. It’s a pretty good show, obviously it’s not a realistic depiction of what police officers do, because that show would suck. It has to be overly dramatic and exciting. But for what it is, very good show.

Fun fact, I ran into Tom Selleck and Donny Whalberg on the street outside of 1 Centre Street in Manhattan when they were filming Season 1. Almost literally, I came around a corner and had to stop short because the two of them were standing there.
We just stood there for a second looking at each other. There were cameras and equipment everywhere so I said “Hey guys, filming today?”. Donny told me yeah, a new show called Blue Bloods. I said sounds good, can’t wait to see it. He said thanks. And I went my merry way. Selleck said nothing, which looking back on it, is what his character probably would have done.
So basically, my well wishes were responsible for the success of the entire show, I think.

I think we’ve watched the first 7 seasons, as well. We ran out of seasons/episodes and didn’t go back.
We really enjoyed the show.

I’m not in Manhattan much (not at all now). But I did spend 3 years (1999-2001, job I worked while in law school) in downtown Brooklyn where they shot the various Law & Order shows. Struck up many a casual conversation with a lot of those actors.
I think I was much less smooth based on almost steamrolling them coming around the corner.

According to the show Staten Island has the largest land fill, so I believe it depends on the wind direction. Reminds me of when I lived in Eau Claire Wi. I got a great deal on a rental house. It was across the street from a paper mill.

You can smell those things for quite a distance. Same with pig farms. I don't know which is worse.

No one wants to get sent there because of the commute. Unless you live there, it’s a PITA and expensive to get there.

The landfill closed in 2001, but yes, you can see it from space.

No one wants to get sent there because of the commute. Unless you live there, it’s a PITA and expensive to get there. Only if you drive. You can commute round trip for $5 on public transportation. FWIW, I don’t like commuting to Manhattan either. But I do like going there for recreation.
