Just get back from walking the dogs on one of the coldest days we've had this winter: 45˚F...

Its all relative, In the fall when it drops to 40's and 50's you swear you're not going make it though winter when it actually gets cold(single digits). After a couple of months off winter and then you hit 30's or 40's you fell like you can walk around in short sleeves.

when we lived in MN and the temp jumped from 30 below to 5 below it was a heat wave. It IS all relative.

I just put the snowblower back in the garage after spending an hour outside with the latest snowfall. We’re supposed to be near 60°by Sunday.

Everyone has to choose the home that fits their needs. There is literally no perfect place...find the one that meets your needs the best and deal with the inevitable negatives that come with it.
Dress warmly for those "cold" days and you'll be fine, whether "cold" is 40 degrees or 0 degrees. I've spent 8 hours out in zero degree temps hunting coyote and was fine. I've spent an hour in 40 degrees and been miserable.
That's just weather. Throw in natural disasters (tornados, hurricanes, mudslides, wildfires, earthquakes etc), critters (venomous snakes/spiders, "killer" bees, fire ants, scorpions, bears, wolves, etc), plus too many or too few people (depending on your preference), political climate, employment opportunity, cost of living, the list goes on and on.
One man's paradise is another's hell yet none is without warts. Some people think New York City is the best place to live, for others it would literally be a living hell. My sister and her husband got divorced because he loved living there and she couldn't wait to get out. She lives in Colorado now. Pick your poison and move on.

That's what I get for rubbing you cold-climate guys's noses in left-coast temperatures: got down to 34˚F last night. Frost all over everything this morning when I woke up.
Pride goeth before a fall...
