I was aware of an exercise equipment company called Peloton. I knew they made high priced stuff. But they're currently worth $40 billion? That I didn't know. What makes their treadmill so special that they can charge $4,295 for the cheapest model of Tread+? Well, there's this 32 inch screen on it. With it, you can commiserate with other "walkers" struggling to pay off their Peloton debt. You can also talk directly to Peloton treadmill instructors. That one got me wondering: what kind of qualifications do you need to be a treadmill instructor? I'm guessing you have to be able to put one foot in front of the other. Walk fast or walk slow. Walk while chewing gum. Walk while telling others how to walk fast or slow. And how to chew gum. That's all I could come up with. Peloton advises owners of their Tread+ to put them in the same category as cross bows and Draino when it comes to having kids in the house, as the machine tends to feed on unwary children. With regard to the latest death, the Peloton PR suits say, “there are no words to express the shock and sadness everyone at Peloton feels as a result of this terrible tragedy." www.bbc.com/news/business-56451430

Super sad about the kid.
One of my partners is a big road biker and has a peloton.
I guess it could be nice for rainy days but takes up a lot of space and is pricey.
I’ve never really be into home exercise or gyms anyway. Would much rather be mtn biking, hiking, kayaking paddleboarding hunting fishing etc and it takes almost no effort to do any of that around here so don’t really see the need.

Sad about the kid, but that is a motor-powered product and is inherently dangerous to little kids. No different from your kid hopping in your car with your keys and starting it up.
I blame stupid parents. They probably were totally ignorant of the dangers involved.
Something I've often seen is a treadmill placed with the back end of it against a wall to either save space, or preclude having to stare at the wall when on the treadmill. This is insanely dangerous because if you trip and fall, the machine will roll you up into a ball before you can get off the thing.
Many treadmills have the 'deadman' lanyard but most people don't use it, preferring to leave it in the switch so it's always on. More stupidity in action.

Yes, I read about the child fatality yesterday. Very sad. In theory. I would love one of their exercise bikes, as I used to love Mountain Biking, but haven't done it for years, and have become quite unfit, and there's no way I would ride a bike on the highway these days. However, I didn't know how much they cost until yesterday, and I presume there's also a monthly subscription charge as well(?) so there's no way I will realistically ever get one. By the way, I "invented" this idea (in my head) about 30-40 years ago, but the technology didn't exist back then.

I do an extensive home workout six days a week, but instead of including a treadmill in that ritual of pain, I use a Nordic Track ski device (non electric). It conveniently folds up when not in use.

Children must be supervised, just what it is. And no. I won't be getting a treadmill. 4k? Yeah, no.

Forgot to say, I've got a dodgy knee, so I can't do running machines/ treadmills. I did used to like Nordic Ski machine when I used to go to the gym, as there was less impact strain on my knee
