I played bass in the backing band at a country music walkup, put your name on the board, you get to sing two songs of your choice, country or pop or rock for a senior type of audience.
Normally I have share to bass playing duties with another regular or with bass playing companions of the singers but today I got the whole afternoon for myself.
Playing songs you have never heard, with people you don't know
I used to be dismissive of country music but now, of course, I appreciate fundamental greatness of the "three chords and the truth"
It took till the 7th or 8th song before someone did a song that I knew, but there was only part of one tune that I did the "mime", pretending I'm playing because I got lost in the timing and arrangement.
Pretty happy as I reckon I got it about 90 % right and of the rest I knew where I went wrong.
The first time I played there I think I got it 40% right.
It is pleasing to see those people who, like me, got up as absolute beginners but now are much better and are more confident in singing their songs.
I feel sorta proud of them.
I used to find these days intimidating but thanks to the good nature of the people there, it is now a lot of fun.
How did you spend your day ?

Nice post, I put my guitars in the rack last year and since January I've been taking on line lessons learning to play keys/piano. I start a new class/song each Sunday and play a few hours each day until the next Sunday. My goal is to develop a short set list and the confidence to be able to sit down and play five easy pieces by summer 2022.
