I've always been impressed with Jeff and he got me hooked on the Explorer guitars ... of which I still do not own.
Long interview, but I happily sat through it. Two hours in he explains how his custom built Explorer came to be.
He played a big part in the writing of their music, which I should have assumed. I just never really thought of him in that light.
The guy was tight with many musicians we all know, Skynyrd, Allmans, and other in Florida of the 70s and early 80s.
With Donnie Van Zant being Ronnie's brother it all hooked together nicely.
Talks abut ... Would have been an architect, Plane crash, Big People (Ben Orr)
If you you are a .38 Special fan or have any interest here it is.
Live on one of the big early hits.

I'll toss in a couple of things I learned from the interview. Jeff Carlisi Explorer by Larry Madsen, on Flickr Jeff says Dimarzio holds the rights to "white humbucker" pickups and this is why you never see a Gibson with white pickups ... at least not a factory Gibson. His custom made Explorer has white Dimarzio humbuckers. Another odd fact: He is know for this Explorer. He played it exclusively on stage. If he was on stage and was playing something different it had to be because the Explorer was broken in some way. In the studio he never played the Explorer. Virtually all of the studio recording were done with 69 Les Paul Deluxe.
