They had really lost their way, huh?

The can opener guitar.
Another weird one was the RD, with a pickup system developed in partnership with MOOG.
Yet another weird one was the Sonex. A Les Paul-alike made with a wood/plastic composite body.

I had an RD77 Artist, complete with the electronics..
Sold it simply because it was marked "Factory Second".
Really.

I picked up a 70's RD Standard bass in the 90's at a guitar show for a couple hundred bucks. I used it exclusively for recording and it sounded really good, punchy and round. Thing weighed a ton. I actually wish I still had it.

I hated those. IIRC they had a bolt on neck.

That whole weird series was bolt neck, iirc.
Hey, these are no Firebird X.

That’s honestly not a bad price. There’s some demand as Mike Cooley in Drive By Truckers has one that he retrofitted with P-90s.

I kind of like the look of the Corvus and RD, especially the RD for some reason. There's just something about that gumbified body shape that I like.

Holy shinola, I should've held on to my RD Std bass. Who's paying these prices for 70's instruments?
