Today I traded my 05 no frills Ford Focus in on a 2021 Hyundai Elantra Limited. This is the 3rd New car since 1980 for me. I have bought my wife 6-7 new cars since we married. Until today all have had crank windows and manual door locks. This this has all the new safety features to help me not have a collision and Bose Premium Radio with 8 speakers and a subwoofer. This car does about everything but wipe my tail end. First sirrus radio. CD replaced with usb for Thumb drive. Remote features from not only keyfobs but cellphone via encrypted bluetooth. 10.5” display for media, radio and navigation Frankly don’t know how to act. I drove the focus 16 years

Congratulations ! I hope it's not one of those cars that turns itself off on the freeway though... I have a 16 year old Hyundai that I still enjoy but the paint is starting to bubble and it needs a new clutch. But my Hyundai was a solid car for me ! But I guess you gave up, huh ? You know... What we both REALLY want is a car that drives itself....where we play music in the back seat, right ?(and does so safely !) Yeah, I might give up too. But a guy can dream !

I had to go car shopping yesterday to replace my 2002 Tahoe, as the transmission finally went out. Ended up getting a 2014 Ford Focus hatchback. It has 96K miles, alloy wheels, leather, heated seats, sunroof.. And it's a 5-speed:)

All the new bells and whistles are kinda cool. I gotta laugh at the display that says don't read this. Keep your eyes on the road. No kidding.

LTB....I was alluding to those cars that are designed to shut themselves off to save gas that I believe were mentioned on this site and others.
Apparently in stop and go traffic on a freeway, they shut off and have to be restarted for each "move".
Cool design, eh ?
I don't think the design team ever lived in Los Angeles or Seattle....

It would be quite an irritation I am acclimating to the car. After discovering its abilities and limitations I am finding driving to be safer and more pleasurable even in traffic on highways and in town. This thing is astounding. Lightyears above anything I had before. I can only hope it continues to be reliable

I like it. I got it for almost $2K under value, and it runs well, but the AC only blows on my feet and through the defroster. I'm taking it to get the AC looked at today, I think it may be a vacuum leak.

I drove the focus 16 years I'm curious what the trade-in value was on a 2005 Focus. We've got a 1998 Explorer Sport that I've thought about trading; but it still is reliable, low mileage (just under 100k) and I figure is worth *zero* in trade so might as well just keep it. Ford considers it "obsolete," though, so getting some parts can be a challenge.

Ford considers it "obsolete," though, so getting some parts can be a challenge. Jimmy, it was a no frills 2005 Ford Focus model Automatic transmission with basic AC/Heat AM/FM with CD player, manual door locks, window cranks, driver seat few small tears in cloth, 115,540 miles , scratches, dings minor hail damage paint on hood clearcoat peeling. And to add insult to injury, someone slammed their door into my rear driver side door and put a crease in it while I was in Houston. I didn't notice but my daughter and wife asked "how did that happen?" I told my wife "I guess I will have to pay them to take it now" But it brought me $500 and I didn't feel like trying to sell it myself. Mechanically and electrically sound with no oil usage, ran good. While It brought me $500 I am guessing yours might bring $1500-$2000

You do realize that this is entirely automatic and happens instantly when you take your foot off the brake, right? And that it can be turned off? Absolutely! At first I did not but after driving 316 miles combination city and highway and some eye opening realizations I am getting pretty comfortable with it. When you first start the car all automatic stuff is defaulted to off so thats good. Also mine does not turn engine off when stopped Where it really shines is on the Highway in traffic that slows but doesn't completely stop and speed set to speed-limit of say 75mph, then limit changes to 65 then 55 , then back to 75mph all while keeping distance behind car ahead and then slowing down as a car changes lane in front of you, adjusting speed and staying in your lane following the stripes and edge of the road even through a curve. Plus I found the "Auto Hold" that when you come to a complete stop, let of brakes and giving quick tap to the brake pedal the Auto Hold light turns green and holds your vehicle while waiting in line at drive thru or stopped at a light. Then to move just press accelerator pedal and off you go. These examples are from my own experiences. I now see what my dad said when he bought his 2016 Genesis G70 then 2020 G80 "The number of books that come with this car make me feel I am in College all over again". And he was right!

Heavyduty, I just read the ones that do shutoff when stopped a while you just press accelerator and they start up and proceed to move. Mine doest have that feature

I inadvertently found another feature on my car. I had Auto Hold enabled (which holds brakes at a complete stop until I press the accelerator) and pulled up to my mailbox to get mail. Couldn’t quite reach it so I unfastened my seat belt and retrieved my mail. When I pushed on accelerator to go it would not budge. It said fasten seat belt on dash display so I did. Once fastened I pressed accelerator to go and off it went. It would not release brakes nor let accelerator do anything until I fastened my seat belt. 😄

I don't think the design team ever lived in Los Angeles or Seattle.... Or Staten Island. I can’t even see how that feature would be good for your car, it must happen dozens and dozens of times in our stop and go traffic.

When my mom gave up driving at 81 years old, she gave me her last new car. It's a 2007 Focus with 35,000 miles in near mint condition. So I sold my 2013 focus and now drive that and a mint condition Florida 2007 F-150 with 65,000 miles. I upgraded both to new Pioneer head units with back up cameras, bluetooth phone and music, CD, and thumb drive. They also play DVD's. I have Pioneer speakers and an 8 inch subwoofer in each vehicle too. So... old mixed with modern. Works for me!
