My www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dupuytrens-contracture/symptoms-causes/syc-20371943#:~:text=Dupuytren's%20(du%2Dpwe%2DTRANZ,fingers%20into%20a%20bent%20position. Is now so advanced that I basically have two functional fingers on my left (dominant) hand. There is a very invasive procedure that temporarily restores the functions of your fingers,(there is no known cure) in most cases,.. that fix is free for me. I discussed the issue with a neighbor who had the free fix done on her left hand and her left pinky is now permanently curled in. There's a far less invasive , more successful, procedure called www.cambiesurgery.com/procedures/needle-aponeurotomy/ that, although available in Canada is not free. So...we got a lefthanded guy (who plays right) that can't play. I know nothing about "go fund me" but I am considering investigating that option. To the mods......if I figure it's the best choice, could I make a request for help here, or is that out of bounds? And to the members here.....yes? cheers Roly

I'm cool with that.
That condition must be more than frustrating. Is it also painful?

I'm all for helping out.
Assuming it's allowed here, how would that work?

That’s horrible, I hope you can get it guitar functional. I’ve got to be careful with both of mine. I’ve screwed them up even to the point were the Doctor told me I’d never hold a guitar again, that I’d be lucky to pick up a pencil.

Wow, sorry to hear this roly. I hope you find a solution. By “free” do you mean covered by Medicare?

Yeah, well he was wrong, he knows all about bone, tendons, muscles, and nerves, but he didn’t take into consideration me. Most don’t have my experience with rehabilitation. I’ve had great therapists and know how far to go before hurting myself. It took me a year before I could walk after falling off a 6 story building. I lost my right arm elbow radial head in that accident. If I had learned to play left handed it would have been very difficult if I had to play lefty. Stringed instruments are the only thing I can do right handed. I’ve told this story before, this is the abbreviated version. Doc told me I’ld never Play again. He repeated it the day he unscrewed the external fixation divise, I asked him if I could keep the titanium hardware that had been screwed into my arm bones. Used it as a traverse thumb rest on my 5 string bass. Anyhow about 2 months after my last appointment with him my old friend Albert Castiglia called me to see how the hand was working. I told him it was fine I had picked up a bass just a few days before he called. Yeah, no real problem a little adjustment needed to be made in brain/hand position but nothing worse than changing instruments with different scale lengths. Albert said he’d be at the High Dive in Gainesville, asked me to be there. He invited me to sit in and I did. He called me later and told me some guy from the North Central Florida Blues Association video’ed the whole thing, I sent the link l’m on the right. to my hand surgeon with a note thanking him for the good job he did on the hand.

I'm in the early stages, my hands look very much like the hands in the pop-up I keep getting on facebook, with the bumps and the lines forming. No impaired functions yet. Does anyone know of any preventive measures? I do a lot of hand and finger stretching but I have no idea if that does any good or not.

Yup, it hurts but that wasn't always the case. Yukon Health Care will pay for the crude fix. For years I have been stretching my left ring and little fingers but now I have a weird fissure on my palm and it hurts like hell when I stretch. Thanks folks.

Best wishes Roly, sorry for the ordeal. I was told years ago I have bilateral carpal tunnel but don't trust the diagnosis. Mainly tingling in my left pinky and ring fingers. I also often wake up with trigger finger in the ring finger.
Hope you find relief and a longer lasting solution.

I have pain in the underside of both hands, below the pinky. The right is worse and a firm handshake is excruciating. X-Rays were normal so I am guessing it’s nerve related.

I have pretty bad arthritis in both thumbs.
Almost everything I like to do (guitar, bass, surfing, woodworking, drawing, etc.) makes them hurt (at the base of the thumb, down near the wrist).
Can't open jars or grip stuff as well as I used to.
Nothing to do but to suck it up and continue on as best as I can, I guess.
Kinda like an old car with oil leaks, bad rings and a couple of burnt valves.
All the best to you, Roly...and to the rest of us broke down old geezers as well...

Got a PM from our fearless leader, Mike thinks my OP was somewhat cryptic. My goal was to confirm that a "go fund me" post is acceptable and to inquire if folks here are willing to kick in a few bucks to the go fund me thing. I did not intend to solicit funds directly from this forum's members. Hope that clears up any ambiguity. Although I have not yet investigated the cost of the procedure, I am certain that if done in Canada, the cost will be much lower than having it done on your side of the border. cheers

The question being “can I post my GoFundMe link here if I create one”, the answer is “yes”.
I appreciate your clarifying, and for asking before posting it. I would like to see you get your surgery, and if posting the link here helps, then that’s great. Those who want to click it can, those who don’t, won’t.

^ Making a contribution is simple. Not sure how much work goes into setting one up, but I’ve donated to several and it’s pretty much as much work as making any other online purchase. Name, billing info, credit card, done.

Best of luck getting it sorted out, Roly. You gotta be able to keep turning knobs and pushing sliders as much as anything else.
I believe you also poke around inside gear to fix it as well, and play, so you're probably the type of renaissance musician your community needs.
