For the past week or so I've heard nearby transformers blowing up daily, followed by posts from nearby neighborhoods on local social media confirming the outages. The good news is that Centerpoint Energy seems to respond pretty quick to these incidents. Just lost power here with 90F/feels like 100F. Power back on within 20 minutes or so.
At this pace I wonder how long before they run out of parts to fix these things...

Hopefully they have better luck sourcing parts than we do. Unless it is domestically produced, we have a terrible time getting anything. Batteries and relays are the worst.

That is a spectacular sound for sure.
We had one blow up on a pole behind our house many years ago.

Be careful…
…they’re robots in disguise.

Be careful… …they’re robots in disguise. That's my concern. God forbid they all morph into one big transformer and start stomping through the neighborhood.

When the power went out, there used to be a phone number on my Edison bill that I could call. After my requisite time on Hold, Edison would tell me that my power was out. This was important information. I often wrote it down so I wouldn't forget. Jump ahead to the 21st century. I now have an App on my phone that I can access when my power goes out. It tells me that my power is out. I noticed that there was a little line through the speaker on the announcement. I cleared that, and now a human-like robot voice confirms that my power is indeed out. (It says "service interruption" but I get it) I went next door to play it for my neighbor, but he couldn't hear me knocking over the noise of his generator. I left him a note.
