We just had our 17 year cicada's die off and now I am noticing that there are no bugs flying around my outside lights at night.
Thinking about it I normally would have gone through 2 or 3 cans of raid by this time of year, I still have a full can I bought in spring. So must have been none before the cicadas invaded.
How is it at your place.

It's a bit buggy here. No better or worse than usual, I think.

I bought my grand daughter one of those tennis racquet bug zappers and we cannot find a bug to zap anywhere. Even at night by the lights.

I've noticed a lack of mosquitos and flies around here but maybe it's just a bit too early for them.

They all went to Florida, trust me.

I'm seeing a small reduction since the skeeter truck made several rounds, but Texas (at least my area) is a cornucopia of the sunsamidges.

Just got back from a local park with a playground. Normally I would need to soak myself with DEET or I'd come home looking like a pin cushion. I forgot the bug repellent and no bites.
There are no bugs flying around my outside lamps tonight either. I even whacked one a few times, no bugs flying away.
I'm not complaining one bit. Last year we were covered in fly's. It looked like the Australian outback they were so thick.

The weather's been all over the place this spring so they've been minimal but we're going to be in the 90s next wk so I expect that'll bring them out.

I haven't seen many wasps this year, which suits me just fine.

my farm is what my grampa would have called bottom land. it's in a valley at about 850' sea level with ridges around at about 1200' sea level. the rains drain into the bottom and lots of it stays wet all year. the PERFECT breeding ground for all sorts of BUGS!!! there is NO shortage of them here! some of the skeeters are cartoonishly huge... and ticks!!! i've NEVER seen so many.

Humidity has been low this year, normally I would empty my de-humidifier once a day I haven't emptied it in weeks. I know it's working because if I wipe it dry it does get an inch or so of water in the pan. Supposed to get humid this weekend.

Saw a yellow-jacket, a fly or two, and few mosquitos lately. We were hoping the bad freeze killed mosquitos and fleas but so far doesn't seem to be the case here in North Texas

Maybe they all got eaten by the cicadas.

Usually, by this time of the year, I have a squadron of moths dive bombing my porch light, just waiting for me to open the door so they can come in and play tag with the cats. So far this year .... zip.

I've seen one mosquito at my house in 4 years. Too high for them, I guess. And I've heard the ticks are bad this year, but I have yet to see one on my dog or elsewhere.
The irides... irridesc... irredesc... bright blue dragonflies have arrived, though, down by the river. My favorite bug.

I was awoken by a bee in the house this morning. More accurately, by my wife’s discovery of a bee in the house. I opened the window and screen and he left.

This year, a couple of nights I could stand sitting outside in the humidity, we saw a bunch of lightning bugs in the backyard. We hadn't seen them for a long time. I remember growing up that there were tons of them. We would catch about 50 in a mason jar and enjoy the show.

I've noticed a distinct lack of bees around here, especially bumblebees. My little vegetable garden is suffering for it. My zucchini, yellow squash and eggplants are loaded with flowers but very little fruit.

I am in NC. Lightning bugs are abundant here. Pollinators not so much. We had a late frost, dry spring, but are experiencing a wet summer. Odd for our little part of paradise.

We have a bumper crop of lightning bugs this year. 😎
Seemingly plenty of pollinators too.

Much more than last year (first year here, so only comparison as last summer).
Different as well - no cicadas here, but it's bene giant black moth brothel with dragonflies.
