Maybe I'm late to the party, but I just stumbled across this: people who post video of themselves and their friends "reacting" to some other posters videos, usually the routine of a some stand-up comedian, the latter appearing as a little "insert" window.
Somebody finds this entertaining to watch and worthy of investing even 5 seconds of their time? I don't get it at all, but there seem to be a whole lot of people doing it.
Compared to this, those "gear unboxing" videos are utterly riveting!
Yeah, yeah...I know: "if you don't like it, don't click". I only looked at one, because I mistook it for the original stand-up routine, which I wanted to watch (but not as a tiny insert with bad sound and inane commentary, thank you). Then I noticed that the "suggested viewing" sidebar was full of other "reaction" videos. So I guess it must be "a thing". Pretty sad.
Not going to post a link to an example because...well...it wouldn't be worth clicking on.
Now I'm anxiously awaiting the new wave of videos of people "reacting" to other peoples' "reacting" videos. Good Lord, please don't tell me if that is already "a thing" too...

I don’t care who they are, the “react” videos are beyond lame.

Then again, who am I to judge?
Maybe I'm over-reacting...

I want to see a video of Leftee's reaction. We should video us Zoom reacting together and then post it so Leftee can counter with a video reacting to our reaction!
So cool!
Sure to draw viral numbers of "likes"...

After some time and careful consideration, I think I'm actually starting around to this concept.
Given my general lack of talent, creativity and work ethic, being A YouTube Reactor is probably my only remaining potential pathway to celebrity and vast wealth...

I'll do a react video - but no one can do one on MY video.

That would result in internet wedgies for all involved.

My kids were into an offshoot of that....watching vids of people who played an online game as they react and comment about the game after the fact.
My son puts this crap on the TV and then he saying "Dad, you gotta watch this, when they find out who it was the reaction is siiiicccckkk!".
Ugh....that 5 mins of my life I'll never get back.
I've truly reached curmudgeon status as I hate where this world is going.

I'm working on a video of people watching a video of someone who is watching grass grow while waiting for paint to dry (on video). I can only work on it a couple of hours a day because it is so intense. Sometimes I get so caught up, that the only way to calm down is to watch a video of me watching a video (of me) counting down from a hundred.

Remember, to prevent permanent injury, seek medical attention if your reaction lasts longer than 4 minutes.

The first time I recall seeing a reaction vid on the Utoob was back in the 2000s and the reaction was to another another video (most definitely *not* available on Utoob) where two girls were sharing one cup and seemed to be enjoying each other's company.
I'm not easily disgusted, but that got me there.

Glad I didn't notice it for the first 20 years...
