I've used 10s in my bass rig for years but have always used 12s for guitar. Recently, I heard an old Musicman 2x10 combo that sounded great. Have I been missing something all these years?

I only have one amp with 10" speakers, and I personally prefer 12's.
But I'm a Rock guy.

10s are usually a bit punchier than 12s due to reduced mass of the cone; it's why bassists often use 10s instead of 12s and 15s.
One is not necessarily better than the other. You have to trust your ears and decide which you prefer. I have several small combos (and an 2x10 extension cab) and they all sound great. The Princeton Reverb has a single 10 and it sounds huge. I also like 12s.

I have a Supro combo with a 10. Also had a combo cab built with 2-10’s to house my 1973 Bandmaster Reverb chassis. Wonderful amp!

I've enjoyed all the amps I've had with multiple 10's, particularly the Vibro King. The best description I've heard of their forte is "p'd off".

Didn't the Stones use Ampegs loaded with 10s?
I like both 10s and 12s.

2 x 10s for guitar is my personal favorite but I have a couple of 2 x 12 cabs too.

I fall into Piney’s camp.
That said, there are some great ROWK 10s. One of my all time favorites is the Celestion G10L-35 from the JCM 800 era of Marshall’s history. Unlike the G10D-25 (🤮) they used in the 12w Lead amps and micro stacks, the G10L-35 is a fantastic speaker in/with a Marshall.

I've said before: the Princeton Reverb with its 10" speaker works for almost everything (and I'm only adding "almost" so someone doesn't ask about thrash metal). My other amps/cabs use 12"s but the one I use the most is a TM10 with an 8" speaker, so call me speaker driver diameter agnostic.

I do like 10s in a Fender rig.

My grab-n-go amp is a Quilter 2x100-watt Aviator and it's in a 1x8 combo cab. The speaker is a Celestion, and it will crack windows and send librarians into apoplectic siezures.

I have always despised 10" speakers on guitar.
It's 12" or the venerable 15" JBL for everything!
