Back pain! After at least 10 years with little or no back pain, the last few days have been an agonizing reminder of years of dealing with it. I hope I am able to correct the problem using the the exercises that have worked for so long that I got from a physical therapist. My issues are right between the shoulder blades, a tad to the left, a result of a motorcycle spill in my 20’s. I feel for you guys with even worse back pain.

Back pain sucks, I've had my issues with lower back strains caused from my past job. Daily exercise has greatly reduced pain, but I get complacent and have to remind myself what I went through with the pain. Hope it goes away for you quickly.

I’ve had far worse back pain so I’m not complaining too loudly. I think I will be able to work through it with the exercises and OTC pain relievers. I may be going to cardiac rehabilitation at the end of October and that may help but it is pending the results of my next echocardiogram.

Best wishes. And keep doing your back exercises.
A few years ago I saw some back exercises illustrated in Men's Health Magazine. They work! I think there were 3 of them, but I only remember two.
With one, you get on elbows and knees, then extend your right arm and left leg, like half-Superman. Then extend the left arm and right leg.
The other is being like an angry cat, getting on hands and knees and lifting up the back.
As I said, those work for me when my back hurts.

I think I jinxed myself responding to this thread, I blew out my lower back this afternoon getting out my recliner I can’t even stand up straight. It’s going to be a long week. I guess I didn’t do enough of those exercises .

Awwww MOJO, gentlemen! Back pain is ...a real pain in the yoo-no-whut.
When things are working great and I'm pain free, I easily forget just how miserable it is to have back pain, even when laying flat. I used to hate taking painkillers (still do), but dangit sometimes I have to forgo my principles and pop the pills.

I feel your pain. Well, my pain. I have an on again off again affair with back pain. On lately. Try alternating hot and cold compresses.

Mojo. A cracked vertebra from crashing the bike, also in my 20s, had me learning stretching and twisting the spine yoga-grade. Good for 99% of the time. Else, lying flat on the back with a hot cherry pit pillow tucked under helps. And giving it a day or two..

So sorry to hear this. For me, back pain seems to return when my weight increases. It's another reason to try and stay trim.

I’ve broken 5 vertebrae, two in my neck that caused partial paralysis in my right arm and three in my lower back. Usually not much pain, none at all in my neck.
I think my left hip is starting to act up, I pay close attention to alignment when working around the farm, walking etc. The pain has been tremendously reduce, most day’s I don’t feel it at all.
Sins of the immortality of youth.

Aligning and economy ergonomics à la Feldenkrais is also what's keeping me up when old injuries remember to remind me. With a once broken neck, collarbone, arm, elbow, hand, foot and toes, said method combined with rehabilitational yoga training has kept me free from pain (and meds) for quite a while now.

I can't imagine the rehab you must have gone through! Glad to hear you found something that helps.

The simple exercises from my physical therapist 32 years ago are coming through again. Doing much better today with only mild discomfort.

Two days ago a huge dead Live oak came down and blocked the only entrance/exit to the property. Cut up about 8 feet of it to clear the driveway. Didn’t lift so much as rolled the cuttings out of the way, tried to keep them under 40 pounds or so.
Today’s a little better than yesterday, I cut part of the back field today about an acre and I’m done. The back only hurts when I initially get up or bend over. I’m taking it easy for a few days. I did wear a back brace running the tractor and it helped, but I could feel it. I should of used it cutting up the oak too. I’m leaving it out to remind me.
My right arm is about 50% paralyzed, it causes me to consider moving and lifting, it usually keeps me from screwing up my back too bad, since I’ve got the think things through, before taking action.

Fortunately, I am back to zero back pain after doing the exercises diligently for several days. I have other bigger health issues to deal with so one less thing means alot!
