I think there is a psychology there. There is a self esteem issue. You are clearing the path and setting the tone. They have just enough courage to follow but not enough to lead.

I’m the only one here to admit guilt? Yep, it’s only you. Stop doing it.

I give them a friendly wave, like "hey buddy, how's it going driving up my ass"?

Years back my wife and I were driving back home from our then favorite brewpub. We made a quick stop at a store and as I exited the parking lot a red pickup simultaneously made a left turn behind me. I'm assuming he took it personally that I didn't anticipate his turn and was the king of everything 1500 feet in front of him. He flew up on my tail and despite my 5 to 10 mph over the limit wouldn't relent nor pass. I emptied my windshield washer over the next few minutes. Then a herd of deer appeared on the shoulder, causing me to swerve and brake. Bubba in the red pickup was there with me through it all. As we approached my little town the speed limit dropped to 25 mph. Bubba decided to pass me in a no passing zone and do so within inches of my left. I didn't relent and turned my brights on in anticipation. He got in front of me and locked em up, then stopped. I'm thinking, if this $%/&÷×=_"*÷= gets out of his car I'm running him over. There we sat for half a minute, me pondering if he has a gun, me pondering if he's pondering I have a gun, or will run him over if he gets out. Then I'm thinking "how will this play out if I run bubba over in self defense, a pint or 2 of my favorite quaff in my belly, explaining it to the cops?"
Bubba drives off and a 10th of a mile later I safely pulled into my driveway.
I have used this situation as the framework of how to handle situations going forward, and in particular, as a concealed weapons holder.
Its not worth escalating, I lose nothing relenting to the bubba's in the red pickup trucks. I try to be a pacifist when behind the wheel. Indignance could cost me a lot.

Before 1966, I don't think that automatic backup lights were mandatory equipment on vehicles. Prior to that, a friend's dad had installed some on his truck as a DIY safety feature and could control them with a flip of an in-cabin switch. See where I'm going with this? Amazing what message a quick on/off of the backup lights will relay to someone following too closely.

Yeah, and another power trip is pulling up to a stop sign and motioning the guy on the right to go ahead and they just motion back for you to go. One time I just decided nope I will sit there. After a few minutes they went on. Yes, I know, power trip in reverse

I try to be a pacifist when behind the wheel. Yep, that's me. I'm almost never in a hurry these days. If I get someone on my bumper, I pull over and let 'em by. Not interested in conflict.

Boy do I have stories on tailgaters, but I'll just tell the latest. A ten mile stretch of a 4 lane highway leading into town is currently being repaved, with one side being diverted to two lanes and a 50 MPH limit. Nobody goes the limit, I'm at my usual 5mph over.In the 1/4 mile as the lane change begins,it's like the beginning of Lemans, people a mile behind floor it and blast by to get in front of you only to be stuck with the rest of us once the lane ends. The other day some goober actually took out several baricades as he missed his timing by "this much"! I had to violently brake to keep him from taking me out with him.

After a few minutes they went on. Yes, I know, power trip in reverse At stops signs, I count to 3 and if someone doesn't go, I go. That's a good rule. Seeing as people here usually only slow down at a stop sign and don't actually stop, 3 seconds is a fair amount of time to know if someone is waiting for you or going.

My most recent issue was a guy who, on the interstate, would go 4 mph faster than me (I had cruise set) when it was clear and would slow down to 5 mph less than me when passing other vehicles. Not sure the logic of slowing down while passing other cars...
Referring to the people who zoom up when approaching a construction zone lane reduction, I had a guy who zoomed past me leaving town. I sped up to my speed, set my cruise and ended up passing him. Not long after we came to a lane reduction and he zoomed past me and several other cars to be in front in the construction zone. When we came out, I sped up to my speed, set the cruise and rolled past him again. He happened to get off the 4 lane at the same time as me and we did the same dance leaving that small town, though now it was 2 lane so I had to find an opening on a windy road to pass.
I could maybe see this if I was accelerating slowly when I got into higher speed limit areas, but that's not the case. He was obviously flooring it with a pretty high powered vehicle. Maybe he wanted to show off his superior power?

When I got my Texas drivers license in 1968 we were taught when you come to a 4 way stop and if you both stopped at same time the person on on the right goes first. Now it seems to be a “free for all”

I used to let that stuff get to me. A couple or three hours every day driving to downtown Miami and back to Homestead was taking it’s toll on me. Now a days I’ll only use the interstates when I need to make time. Generally I’m driving on the rural roads. Seeing more of the country. Stopping at interesting looking places. Not in a hurry to be anywhere.
The way the interstate’s are in Florida I can often make better time taking the back roads.
