So, the 15 year old Stihl FS 55 RZ Weedwacker refused to start and I noticed the fuel lines were deteriorating and leaking. So I went to Amazon and found a complete fuel system kit including 2 fuel filters, 2 gaskets, 2 primer bulbs, 2 air filters, new fuel lines, new spark plug and a complete new carburetor! $15.98 shipped to my front door! Since the fuel lines are deteriorating, the diaphragms inside the carb almost certainly are in the same condition. Having a bolt on replacement carb is nice. I’ll be able to rebuild the original as they are very simple and keep it on hand. I switched to using no-ethanol Stihl MotoMix fuel last year so maybe I will get another 15 years out of it!

I gave that gas-powered crap up many years ago when I went to the 58 volt Echo yard tools. Try ‘em and you’ll love ‘em.

I already own quality gas equipment. I do have an inexpensive battery operated Worx brand Weedwacker and blower that work well on light duty jobs but for the tougher stuff, I stick with Stihl. I have a ton of English Ivy out back that will take over without serious intervention! I also have a Stihl chainsaw.

I have a Stihl leaf blower. It worked great for many years back in Nebraska, but would barely run up here in the mountains at el. 8500. I took it to a mower shop and the guy cleaned and adjusted the carburetor and it runs fine now.
I agree with Laker regarding the battery powered stuff, it's great. I have a Stihl battery powered chainsaw that is amazing. But as long as the Stihl gas blower works, I'll keep on using it. It could well outlast me.

Stihl gas engines are easily serviceable and parts are readily available and I have a garage full of tools. It doesn't make economic sense to switch for me.

I went through the tuneup and found I didn’t need the new carburetor or new spark plug. I replaced the primer bulb on the carb and the fuel lines and fuel filter and air filter. Starts right up, idles nicely and once it warms up rev’s up like it should. Then I discovered I was out of .095 string and low on MotoMix so had to make a run to Ace Hardware. Got it all put together and went out back and whacked some weeds! I’m pretty pleased with myself. 😏
