Our Hammond B3 organist and one of my best pals the last 25 yrs died of a brain tumor end of last yr @ 75, last week our 85 yr old tenor sax player passed. So our longtime jazz quartet is down to me and the drummer, but he hasn't been making gigs since the pandemic, so it's only me. I've had to hire new musicians and suddenly I'm leading 2 bands now. You think about things like this through the yrs but are never really prepared for them. Getting old sucks....

Sorry you lost your bud and partner in crime.
I think for many of us, here, the circle of friends is getting smaller.

I lost a close friend and mandolin player last year. We didn’t have the heart to continue without him. My condolences, getting old sucks indeed.

Sorry for the loss of your friend, Jazzguy. Last week I deleted yet another number in my contacts on my phone. It's a strange and repeating practice these days.

Lost a couple of band-mates/close friends within a year of each other, and it does make you lose heart. By the time I got to thinking about maybe getting back in the game again, the pandemic came along. I might have played my final show 4 years ago. A fundraiser I organized for the guy I've played with off and on since our teens. He died 3 days later, but I'm grateful he got to be at a great party, our parting that day was on a high note. My other buddy played that day but he was already sick, just starting his ordeal. Was a lousy year all told.

People close to me have been dropping dead the past couple of weeks.
One was my Nephew age 48. The other my closest buddy from college.
Another (my Step Son, Queenie’s youngest Son) in the hospital intensive care unit as I type. No idea where that is headed.

That's dreadful, and it just gets worse. Sorry.....stick with it, I'm sure that's what your friends would want. I was in a band that had nine members over the years, there's two of us left. I used to be confused about how casual mom was with the passing of friends, now I get it. Roly

thanks guys, I'm gonna hit 60 revolutions at the end of the month so I was the 'kid' in the band by far. I've formed a new organ trio w/ a sister/brother organ/drummer combo and they're fantastic, doing a great job. now I have to settle on a new band for our other 8 yr weekly gig and I can hopefully continue on. just gonna keep going as long as I can and honor these guys that took me under their wings 35 yrs ago when I was cutting my teeth on the scene.

Find young players -- paying forward is the best tribute and honors those who helped us along the way.

I’m sorry to hear of your losses, but it’s great that the music lives on in younger players. 😎

We lost our lead player to colon cancer (I wrote before about how the guy showed up to play in his last days, with a chemo pump belted to his waist). We also lost one of our two female singers ... not to Mr. Death ... she decided she wanted to be a stay-at-home mom with her new kid.
