Is today -- I expect not on the radar screen of most here but I thought I'd ask. Anyone participate?
I'm not a stand in line kind of guy, so I showed up about 9:30 and the "crowd" was long gone. I was after the Miles Davis "Champions" LP and the Foo Fighters "DeeGees" for my daughter. I got both. There were a couple other jazz titles that were released in low numbers so I didn't expect this store to have any -- and they didn't. I did find a restock of Herbie HanChicken's "Headhunters" on Music on Vinyl, so I grabbed it. I have it on CD and have been looking for a decent reissue on vinyl so that alone was worth the trip.
Overall, a very low key event this time around.

The Who put out a reissue of Face Dances. I wish I knew that record store day was today.

I used to be a major record store scavenger back in the day and have over 1200 jazz lps, not to mention tons of cds. Go to one store, leave and hit a couple more. Flip, flip, flip..... But I'm semi set @ this point, not many left on my wish list.

Same here, set for life. Worked at a record store after school occasionally and loved it.
NSR coincidence. After all the disco talk on the Now Spinning thread HH's Head Hunters album had me grooving to it with the bass today.. 🤖

I picked up something at the framer on Saturday, Record Store Day. The owner of the framing shop noted that the record shop across the street was surprisingly quiet. I just figured the weather was too good to be standing in a line.

I occasionally find something interesting in vinyl at yard sales. Problem for me is that even as a kid, my handling of LP's and even 45's was one step below the Nasa clean room, where they put satellites together. All my originals are pristine; the ones at the yard sales are often scratched, warped or cracked. Not all, but most.

Purchases of vinyl from Goodwill locally are generally limited to original cast albums because the original owners tended to maintain them better.

I hadn't listened to the CD in quite a while -- when I got the LP I played it three times that afternoon. It's just an amazing record.

Nope. But when you got the bass jamming along with the first track it usually wants to stay with the groove. Leading to whatever comes in handy. And there you have your disco. 😎

I've had similar experience. Purchases of vinyl from Goodwill locally are generally limited to original cast albums because the original owners tended to maintain them better. Ten years ago I used to go to a thrift store near where I worked at lunch time. They had thousands of LPs -- 90% were junk but there was enough good stuff mixed in that it was worth my time to go through it. I probably have at least fifty white or gold label promos in great condition that most likely came from one of the commercial or college radio stations that were dumping the stuff in favor of the dreaded CD. On Wednesdays they had a sale where you could fill a shopping bag with records and pay only $5 for whatever you could jam in the bag. Those days are gone. Now Goodwill and most other big thrifts have ebay or etsy sites and they sell whatever half decent stuff they there -- they never even make it to the shelves of the physical stores. Being an optimist, I still stop at yard sales when I see one selling records. As often as not there's a guy in a lawn chair with a laptop and the Discogs website bookmarked who is convinced that his moldy copy of Olivia Newton-John's Greatest Hits is worth $20.

I hear ya. It's a Pavlov's dog thing when you get into the groove and can't stop until the fingers bleed... and only then you can lay back and listen to the rest of Head Hunters.. 🙂

I wish I knew whatever happened to the 78 RPM Little Golden Records I had as a kid. Were they just thrown out in the trash? I remember having a collection of Sousa Marches, along with all the kiddie records.
