We took a short trip through the Texas Hill Country last week, and one of our stops was a tour of the distillery.
Brought back two different bottles of single barrel as "souvenirs" lol
Good stuff if you've never tried it!
Not sure about the single barrel offerings, but I'm told that their small batch is in 37 states.

Looks like it's not available in Iowa. I haven't heard of it either. Single barrel stuff can be a bit of a crapshoot. I'm a big fan of Blanton's Straight From The Barrel (not the usual single barrel stuff, this is sold barrel strength and has way more flavor usually). I can be incredibly good, but the last bottle I got was really not all that. From my favorite from one barrel to "no thanks" from another barrel. It had the heat of a barrel strength bourbon, but didn't have the flavor to support it.
Store picks can be good for single barrel offerings if the person doing the pick is savvy. A lot of times the store manager just says "you pick" and the result isn't anything special. I had one where I think they must have gotten the barrel no one else wanted. They were pouring samples and I felt bad for them because it really wasn't very good.

I had heard of it -- probably watching the Whiskey Tribe guys, but never seen it in the stores. I see that Total Wine has it in stock which is about 45 minutes away. I may try one of the boot flasks which is more reasonably priced than a full sized bottle.
How are they convincing themselves they are making Bourbon if they aren't in Kentucky?

How are they convincing themselves they are making Bourbon if they aren't in Kentucky? The tour guide actually addressed that in couple ways, first, I guess supposedly (I haven't checked) but there is no legal requirement for bourbon to be produced in Bourbon county, and secondly, he offered some "colorful" words and an implied hand gesture to those that scoff at the idea of Texas bourbon, LOL!
