Prayers for the family. This is sad news.
This is ultimately a very important thread - jhawkr's posts on the actions he was taking are an example to be followed.

This news took my breath away. God bless jhawkr, his family, and all of us.
A friend's daughter just got married, in a quick surprise move that shocked everyone. She loves a US serviceman. Most of their time together has been online (~1.5 yrs). It has dawned on me that two things made her do this so quickly and out-of-the blue, and IMO it's a big lesson for me. 1. Her lifelong best friend passed away this year from a lengthy illness (25 yrs old). 2. Her now-husband was standing a couple car-lengths away when the bomb went off at the airport in Afghanistan. Some of his team were killed.
The lesson: Don't wait to tell people that you love them, or that they mean something to you. Don't wait to be kind and loving and encouraging. Don't wait to share what you know - pass it on. Pay it forward. EVERY day.
This forum (all of you) has been close to my heart for almost 25 years. I don't post much, but we're a family here.

It’s a damn shame. jhawkr suffered the health tribulations of Job yet always was seemingly even keeled and moving forward. Over the years I really appreciated his posts and participation in the FDP, especially his well considered and usually fulfilled GAS attacks. The deliberations over the objects of interest and the following reviews if the item was acquired were really well done. Rest In Peace brother, we’ll catch up with you later.

Jhawkr's diagnosis came at the same time my older brother's liver cancer diagnosis was made. He's still awaiting treatment but has essentially been told his only chance for survival will be a liver transplant. I found Jim's final chapters here particularly excruciating but something we all should reflect on.

I never know what to say, I’m sad and feel the loss, which is saying something for a man I never meet. I’m 2 months older than you brother, it won’t be too long until we meet.
Prayers for Jim and his loved ones.

Very sorry to hear this. I always enjoyed Jim’s posts even if he took me to task occasionally for being a bit of an ignoramus. : ) May he be at peace and may his family be comforted. Peace be with you, Jim.

In 2014 or so, my son was working in Wichita. We went down to visit him, and I arranged beforehand to meet up with Jim at this little cafe where he had breakfast every morning on the way to work. We had a nice chat over coffee and bacon and eggs, and he told me about his job. It was not an easy job, very technical, but I could tell that he was proud that he was good at it. Interesting conversation, he was a very detail-oriented guy.
His Mustang GT was new then, and he showed me around it. Very nice car, he was proud of it.
I'm glad I got to meet him, he was a good man.
Rest easy, jhawkr.

As I watched his life story video I saw a man who shrouded his family with love and happiness. If we could only do a portion of that we would do well. God bless his family and loved ones and I hope to meet someday soon Jim

Sad news. I think I've been subconsciously avoiding this place because I've anticipated this with dread. I'm guessing his passing came as a relief, but it's difficult nonetheless.
I hope he rests in piece and I hope his family has the love and support to help them through this.
What a bummer. That's two in less than a week for me.
