jhawkr, your priorities are elsewhere now, but I think it's safe to say that everyone here is praying for strength and grace for you and your family.

Today I had lunch at Red Robbin with 3 grandkids and this evening watched a YouTube stream of another grandson in Texas playing starting T.E. for his varsity HS team. They are 5-0 this year so far. He’s a Jr this year. It’s these kinds of things that mean the most to me.

I hope jhawkr can toss his “heart healthy” dietary guidelines. Milkshakes! Burgers! Fries! Kansas City BBQ!
Anyways, try to put on some extra calories for the chemo.

Prayers sent and continue to be sent. It isn't the best news but they have not put the dirt over you yet. Enjoy each and every day, and I hope it extends you to at least the new year!

I have not now, nor have I ever “given up“. I have been fighting for my life for 30 years. But I am also a realist. I am fighting for every day.

Jim, I’ve not been around much lately but got a message about this thread. Thank you Bill Walsh. I’m very sorry to hear of your recent battle! I’m saying prayers for you and will continue. You need some more good years! We go back to those Wichita/KC FDP Jams that we’re so much fun. Enjoy those grandkids. Steve

Plan, but sometimes the rumors of our own demise are exaggerated.

My prayers and thoughts are with you. I know none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow. I have a good bit of experience with doctors, in my job, working on ventilators for 30 years, in my Miami band, a doctor who is the head of Emergency medicine at Miami Children’s Hospital and the head of the School of Medicine in Miami, a fourth generation Doctor/surgeon.
Mostly the great doctors that over the years put me back together. Nearly everything they told me I would never again be able to do, I proved them wrong. I know our situations are very different. But nothing is carved in stone. Enjoy every day, it seems you’ve already got that. You have my blessings, cherish each day and may you always have tomorrow.

Thanks for all the well-wishes and prayers. So far, since getting a stent in the bile duct, my biggest symptoms, issues are pain, fatigue, nausea, itching and jaundice in that order. The pain is pretty well controlled with narcotic pain reliever and so great pain discomfort should be avoided with proper management. We’ll see how the chemotherapy goes as there will likely be some issues there. I have also been losing weight, down to 198.2 from 210 the day I got out of the hospital, one week total. They are encouraging me to drink Ensure or similar. I am trying to follow my oncologist instructions as best I can. Hoping I respond well to the chemotherapy.

Not a regular contributor but I have been a member of this forum and the old FDP since around 1999. I've always enjoyed reading your posts and finding out about your new purchases and reviews. I think we are similar in age, too. I'll be 67 in a month. Very sorry to hear about your health predicament. I wish you good luck, strength, peace and love, brother. I'll be thinking about you a lot.

If they want to put in a port, let them do it -- makes the sessions much easier on you. That was my experience.

If they want to put in a port, let them do it -- makes the sessions much easier on you. That was my experience. If you get a chemo port, maybe keep a bandage over it so it doesn't get infected. I had a chemo port in 2016 that got infected. Ever watch those medical dramas on TV? One doctor is always telling another doctor "Don't do that--the patient will get sepsis and die." When my chemo port was infected, I got sepsis. But here I am. BTW I did get encouraging words from JimmySee when we were both on the old FDP, and I appreciated them very much.
