Love the new Memoji animation thing!
I sent a “cartoon grandpa” Memoji to the son and DIL to show our 2y/o granddaughter. She got a big kick out of that!

My wife's iPhone seems to have defaulted to "live" mode for taking pictures. We both hate that. A still picture should be just that--a still picture. Not a short movie that freezes after a half-second. You can turn that off. Go to Settings > Camera > Preserve Setting > Turn on Live Photo Preserve Settings then go back to Camera. Turn Live Photo off in the Camera. Your settings will now be preserved. It won't even take a minute to do this. Honestly guys, most everyone's gripes here can be fixed in the Settings menu. Including turning off iOS automatic updates. If you dislike advances in technology for the iPhone or Alexa or Firestick, I suggest a land line, CRT TV and VHS player. This way new technology won't pester you.

Just wondering if you've become accustomed to the new features gato? I haven't done the upgrade yet, but will probably try it soon. I just hope I'll still be able to use the darn phone afterwards.

With my iPhone SE, I send a couple of texts, maybe take a photo now and then, occasionally research something using Google. That's it. No music on my phone. I don't do any photo editing. I maybe get a phone call once a month. Right now the phone keeps telling me that if I want to use the Cloud I have to agree to some kind of terms or something. Am I using the cloud? No idea.

My IT friend is saying iOS 15 needs to bake a little longer - he advised holding off a few weeks, possibly even until 15.1. I have a new iPhone 13 Pro coming, so I’m not bothering to update my old iPhone 7. Oopsie.

Depends what you (or whomever else did it) did during setup. Most people set the phone to back up automatically to the cloud.

Well if they pull the plug on my iphone it’ll be a while, maybe never, before I get a new one.

Well if they pull the plug on my iphone it’ll be a while, maybe never, before I get a new one. They won’t pull the plug in it, but you won’t be able to take newer iOS updates at some point. It’s a fairly long period - my iPhone 7 was still eligible for iOS 15. This isn’t any different than PCs where older hardware can’t support newer software.

My new iPhone 13 Pro on a new carrier (moved from Sprint to Verizon) showed up this past week. The transition was seamless since I already religiously use iCloud to back things up. The migration was wireless via some kind of proximity protocol (near field WiFi or BT, I’m guessing) and took about 15 minutes, and everything carried over. I’ve been having to log back in to apps and websites, but that’s no big deal since all my vaulted passwords carried over.
Not having a home key is a little disconcerting, but I’ll deal with it. Face ID is nice, but I still need to set up alternate images with a mask.

What would happen if, when setting up the Face ID, you showed the phone your butt instead of your face? I realize this would make access a bit dodgy while driving or being at your nephew's birthday party, but for recognition protocols, there wouldn't be an issue of you frowning or wearing sunglasses when you go to open the phone.

Unless your butt has facial features like a mouth, nose and eyes, it won’t work.

Yeah, I’m guessing it won’t work. With Touch ID I actually had the tip of my nose set as an option, but it wasn’t reliable.

Facial recog will not work with your mouth covered by say… a mask.
😷
iOS was updated so that it would, but you also have to have an Apple Watch paired to your phone.

That’s Good, I was thinking if they shut down 3g my phone wouldn’t be able to make or receive phone calls.
It may be an age thing but, updates in most cases seem to be frivolous changes that primarily change the operation more so than substantially improving the functions.
All I need out of my GPS app is to show me the way from point A to point B, I do use the avoid interstates. I don’t need the locations of Guy Firi’s Diners, drive ins and dives, though I did consider it.

I went from I-phone se (6) to a Xs. To turn off the screen the button is on the right side, across from the volume . When turning it off I end up taking screen shots all the time because the thumb presses the volume while the finger presses the screen off button. Most annoying .

I followed a few internet instructions and located a page that indicated I’m using 4G, I should be OK for a while.
Not looking forward to replacing this phone, I’ll have to take a community collage class to figure out how to use it. “o) maybe the next time it needs a battery I’ll upgrade. Hopefully they will still offer the smaller phone.

I’m sure I’ll adapt. (I’ve found you can do it from anywhere on the bottom, not just the corner.)
