Well this is a first. I was reassembling my part Tele and one of the neck screws snapped off. A good half inch is embedded about an 1/8" below the surface.
Do I need to buy a screw extractor set? Maybe this is the universe telling me to buy a new neck. This is an older Allparts baseball bat one that until recently was my favorite but my arthritic hands are suddenly having period issues.
WWPD? (What would Peegoo do?)

Peegoo would clamp the neck to the drill press table and use a screw extractor to remove the broken section. Then he would dowel the hole, trim it flush, and re-drill the hole using the neck plate as a marking guide to locate the new hole in the dowel. Here's a cheepo set that will work... www.amazon.com/QWORK-Extractor-Broken-Remover-Stripped/dp/B07Z7X6TD7But it won't work as well as one like this: www.amazon.com/Single-Screw-Extractor-1-4/dp/B0032YWQ26You must frequently back out the cutter and brush chips off the teeth to keep it cutting and prevent burning the wood. Use a small brass-bristle brush, not steel. Steel will dull the cutters. These cutters cannot be used 'free hand' in a portable drill/driver because the cutter does not have a pilot to stay centered when starting it. In this case, peegoo would drill a 1/4" hole in a small piece of 1/4" thick wood and clamp that to the neck to serve as a guide to get the cutter started. Once the cutter establishes a shallow cut, the clamp and guide can be removed. The idea here is to drill down deep enough to reach in with a small pick and push the broken screw sideways to break it off and remove it. This sounds waaaay more complicated than it is.

And: always poke a teensy piece of wax or bar soap into each screw hole in any maple (neck screws, tuner screws, string tree screw) to prevent this happening.

And and: the best way to plug one of these is a pre-made hardwood dowel pin. The reason is most dowel stuff sold at the big-box stores are fairly soft wood like ramin and low-grade poplar. This is what I'm talking about: www.widgetco.com/1-4-by-1-and-1-4-inch-multi-groove-wood-dowel-pinsThese are made of beech and very hard. Perfect for this sort of repair. You can buy these in small packs at the same big-box store that carries crappy soft dowels. You'll usually find them in the tool department near the biscuits, which are near the powered 'biscuit/plate joiner' tools.

Eh, stuff happens.
I agree with what Peegoo says but for using a dowel in this type of situation. If you are able to use a plug cutter to make the plug (pretty much need a drill press) you'll have a much easier time flushing it to the neck and your bit will be less likely to wander when you drill for the new screw. Using a plug cutter allows you to get a favorable grain orientation; sanding and drilling into end-grain is generally a pain.

If you don't have the tools to do this, you could send the neck to me and I'll rescue it for ya.

But I've decided to "retire" this neck for now and am going to snag another Allparts that's more appropriate for this particular guitar. I don't know how Stratosphere sells these so marked down from Allparts site, but I've done several and they all turned out great. A bud in Michigan told me to bring the old neck next trip in, he's got the tools and skills. Again, sincerely appreciate the offer!

Wow, you're right. The neck I bought for my tele (from Allparts) over ten years ago for $130 is now $205; Stratosphere is asking $110.

Another seller (Arkansas Musicworks) has some for even less when factoring shipping. (Not affiliated with either, just a shopper). I once even messaged Stratosphere to see if these were B stock, which they denied and my experience confirms.
