Since installing the new audio interface I didn't have the appropriate multi-conductor, snake cable assemblies I needed to get all the inputs and outputs to and from the patch bay. I had the 16 pair snake cable but had to spend $100 on 1/4" TRS plugs in order to put what I need together. I need cabling for 8 balanced inputs and outputs. That's 32 jacks with 3 solder points in each one. That makes my neck and back sore just thinking about it but it will be a slick setup when finished. Many years ago I made an apparatus for holding the jacks and cable when soldering I can clamp to my bench to make mass-soldering operations easier but I still have to be hunched over my desk to do it. I set it up as an assembly line. Hopefully I can get it done today. i.postimg.cc/KYVn3bSV/Making-Cables.jpg

Hi What flavor is your iron? I would not recommend testing it's flavor while plugged in. 😜

The solder station is one I got from Harbor Freight back in the early 2000's. It has worked very well for me and I have used it a LOT. I have never even changed the tip yet. There's no telling how many hundred hours I have logged with that thing. I think it was on sale for $69 when I got it. I don't use it everyday but when I do use it I don't shut it off for hours.

I use a similar setup. For soldering plugs onto cables I have a take-off (junk) jack mounted in a block of wood to hold the plug steady.
Don't throw away a junky jack you've replaced with a good Switchcraft unit. Use it to make a holder for plug soldering.

Thanks. I was able to get everything that is involved with recording into a single rack that is on casters. The wiring for all the recording hardware is in that rack except for the control room speakers and the computer monitors. The only other cables exiting the rack are for AC power and my MIDI controller keyboard. There are no cables in the floor. They are all suspended from the desk and rack with spring loaded strain reliefs so I can roll it around and not have dodge cables in the floor. I hope I don't ever have to lift it. It has gotten very heavy. There's probably 25 pounds of wiring in it.
