It's there in spades.
Fact is, yes we should all know by now music is built off someone else's prior work to some extent in some way, shape or form. Either intentionally or subliminally. IMO, no one works in a vacuum in any art.
I'm always in fear of being a rip-off in my art, poetry music.
I've seen, read, and heard too much for to not spill out into my stuff.
All I can do is make my own xxxxe my own, not directly lift anything intentionally to the best of my ability.

Pretty sure Chuck publicly acknowledged the connection at some point.
Everybody has influences.

All I can do is make my own xxxxe my own, not directly lift anything intentionally to the best of my ability. I've done that myself: sit down and write a song, thinking "hey, that's not half bad." Later in the day it dawns on me that the cool melody I birthed, came from the end of a movie, where the credits were rolling over a number I had never heard before.

The story goes that when Billy Joel presented his new song "Movin' Out" to his band, one of the band members said "Hey, that's 'Laughter in the Rain,' by Neil Sedaka.
He had to go back and re-write the music.
Actually, the worst thing about musical plagiarism suits is judges and juries who know nothing about the creation of music and how everything and everyone is influenced by something.

"What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time."
Ecclesiastes 1:9-10

Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 I've always thought it would have been cool if Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers had put that to music. With Tom playing his Rickenbacker 12-string.

I always get a laugh from the video of Chuck Berry teaching Keef how to play the intro to Oh Carol, during a rehearsal. The expression on the faces of Keef and the backing band are priceless. At one point Keef plays the intro note for note just as Chuck did only to have Chuck stop him and say non no no you don't have it. That's all wrong.

Keef was clearly not accustomed to being told what to do. A little "problem with authority", even when it's one of your idols, Keef? Hmmmmmm?

He changed the key and even the tempo, some times. Hell, sometimes he even threw in an extra chord. Hey it's only rock n roll... but I like it!
