I never really watched his show, or much TV in general around that time. I think I may have seen him do stand up on one of the late night talk shows. When our daughters were in middle school, somebody bought them a subscription to "People" magazine. An interview or article in that may have been where I got the impression that his personal life was not all that happy. That seems to often be the case with comedians. It certainly was with W.C. Fields, the Marx Brothers, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx and Robin Williams.

Since my kids grew up on Full House, I decided to watch one of his standup routines. I was surprised at how filthy it was. It was a complete departure from his FH and AFV gigs.

I was so surprised by his "humor" I ran across some articles about "not so nice" activity on the set of his tv show. I never had time for him afterwards.
