A new Thai takeout place has opened in my neighborhood and it’s getting decent reviews. I know nothing about Thai food, I tried it once many years ago and remember that some of it was a little sweet and a lot of it was very spicy. I can handle a little heat but my wife can’t tolerate any hot stuff at all. We would like to try the place. Any recommendations or suggestions? Again it’s got to be really mild or it’s a no-go for my wife.

Everything I've tried at our favorite Thai place has an option of mild, medium, hot, even the ones with a pepper next to it on the menu. That said, I've ordered medium and got fire, ordered mild and got medium and on other occasions ordered mild and got nothing. Best to just find something that looks delish and stress no heat. From this joint my favorite is Pad Se Ewe.

From this joint my favorite is Pad Se Ewe I had to look that up, I thought it might of been made from sheep. It means “stir-fried soy sauce”

I love Thia. My favorite is shrimp and potatoes with diced cucumber and tomato in a coconut curry sauce. Oh man!

Oh man, now I'm hungry! In addition to Pad Se Ew, I usually cannot resist Panang Curry. It also seems that every Thai joint has their own specialty. We have several in my neighborhood and I like to go to each for different reasons. One has Curry Puffs, which are basically empanadas stuffed with curried meat and potatotes. Another has Tamarind Chicken Wings - a great savory/sour combo. Wash it down with a Singha beer. Thank goodness for gastrodiplomacy! www.lionbrand.com.au/blog/gastrodiplomacy-why-are-there-so-many-thai-restaurants

Our son loves Thai food so we've gone with him a couple of times. Not knowing what I might or might not like, I usually stick to something bland, like fried rice because it's hard to mess that up, and order it on the mild side. Yes, they usually have different ranges of spiciness to choose from.

We don’t eat Thai food enough. Love it!
But my unfamiliarity doesn’t render me able to make suggestions.

Have no fear, they know who they are serving so just order "mild" and you will be fine. I tend to like everything on the menu. Pad Thai is very safe, and really good. "Curry" means whatever they want it to mean. Seems there are four levels, mild, medium, hot, and "native". I do not recommend "native".

I'm not a fan of any heat, so I go for Beef lad Na. Flat noodles, thinly sliced beef (or chicken), a green veggie called gai lan which is kinda like broccoli, then soy sauce, fish sauce and a few other seasonings but not ONE IOTA of spicy peppers!!! Pad see ew is also low heat!!

I love Thai food but it’s tough to find here in South Texas! Take a drive up to SA or Austin - I’ve found several good places up here. Or, I can drop some off when Kelly and I head down to McAllen, whenever that will be.

Place by me does the seafood right- shrimp, scallops, calamari, white fish, clams. Many places are shrimp only wedge of lime and real kafir leaves and you got a winner, winner, Thai food dinner!

If you can handle heat and like chicken try the Larb. It is ground chicken and served with large lettuce leaves to wrap it up in. Some places serve it as a salad but I believe traditional is wrapped. Very tasty.

We have a great Thai place near me in NH, of all places. I could eat there a few times per week if I let myself.

Safest bet, I'd say, is either Pad Thai or Pad Se Ew. Both are delicious stir fry dishes and not hot unless you add the spice (chili oil, for example) yourself. I think Pad Thai is probably your best bet as it is a popular dish that hits all the flavors - tangy and hint of sweet. Happy eating!

I should have included that, these days, I avoid driving to anything farther than thirty minutes from home unless my life depends on it or I’m heading out on vacation or a fishing/hunting trip.

Thai is probably my favorite food.
Here’s some suggestions:
Tom kha (coconut milk) soup with tofu Tom yum soup with shrimp Green curry with beef Drunken crazy noodles with beef (aka Pad see ew, I believe).
That’ll cover today. I’ll check back tomorrow.
Also, the entrees can be very doable at medium hot, but keep the heat down on the soups as they tend to amplify the base heat due to their liquid nature.)

Drunken noodles is the perfect dish on a cold day.
Or a hot day!
Try the Thai Iced tea. It's good.

Pad Thai is generally very mild. My son called it his gateway drug for Thai food.
He and I really like Thai food, but nobody else in my family is a fan so we only have it when it's just him and me....a fairly rare occasion it seems. It's rare enough that I can never remember what I like when I go, but I always like what I order. Most places here do spice on a 1-5 scale. 3 is about right for me. I ordered 4 one time and I could eat it, but it was really spicier than I wanted. 5 would likely be inedible for me.

Love Thai food. My wife and I have a couple restaurants we frequent. We've become friends with one of the owners and she always throws something extra in that she knows we like. I like it spicy and I order it Thai hot. It adds so much flavor. My favorites are Pad See Ewe and Siam Chicken. If I get Curry I want it to be Indian which is my favorite food. I think Indian food is hotter than Thai so i don't go all the way in for the heat on Indian food.
